With Saban being a defensive coach and with all the outstanding defensive players Saban has had at Bama, I've always thought it was odd that so few defensive players have won major awards under Saban.
16 offensive players have won major awards, compared to six defensive players. That isn't counting the two times Bama OL won the Joe Moore Award.
Butkus Award
McClain
Mosley
Foster
Outland Trophy
Q Williams
Thorpe Award
Fitzpatrick
Ted Hendricks Award
Allen
Bronko Nagurski Award
Allen
Lombardi Award
Allen
Chuck Bednarik Award
Allen
Fitzpatrick

Anyone know definitively if Bama outgunned last year's LSU team in terms of individual awards? Seems likely given the offensive line accolades that LSU didn't have last year (Rimington/Outland).

The trophy being in tuscaloosa Seems sad for Trask and Lawrence - having to go through all that knowing they had no shot (and maybe they knew they didn't have a shot already)

The Crimson Tide won seven of the 15 player awards tonight.
That breaks Notre Dame's record from 2012 for the most by a single school.

Has there ever been a more decorated Alabama player than Devonta Smith?
I never thought I'd see the day Julio would be supplanted in my mind. But I think he's done it.
I think it's a stretch to think Smitty will have the same kind of NFL career that Julio did--he's just not built like a brick shithouse like Julio is.
But on the college football field? I think Smitty's done it. And has to be in the pantheon of top 5 or 10 best Bama players, ever.
