Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin told media Monday that the Rebels (4-5) are "really struggling" with numbers heading into the matchup against Indiana (6-1).
Mississippi sophomore RB Jerrion Ealy and senior WR Braylon Sanders have both been held out of practice due to undisclosed injuries.
Ealy (5'8/180) and Sanders (6'0/190) were injured during the Rebels' regular season finale against LSU, and neither has returned to practice.
They're now in a race against time to get medically cleared, as Mississippi is scheduled to face Indiana in the Outback Bowl on Saturday.
HC Lane Kiffin said that, while he has no intention of pulling his team out of the game, there are issues throughout the roster when it comes to injuries and COVID-19 related absences. Mississippi may be able to play Saturday afternoon, but they won't have much margin for error when it comes to the team's depth.
"We've not talked about not playing," Kiffin said. "We just want to be a part of a bowl game after this long of not being in one. We've not even discussed that. I don't even know what our (COVID-19) numbers are because we're just going."
Kiffin didn't mention any players or position groups specifically when talking about COVID-19 cases but said the issues are more offensive than they are defense.

Pretty sure aggy had to duck OM. That’s the game they missed.
Ealy is a difference maker.

Yep, December 12 game against Texas A&M was postponed.

Say it with me. Playoff contender A&M ducked Ole miss.

You mean A&M had covid, rescheduled the game, then Ole Miss had covid.
Do you need to lie to make yourself feel better about how shitty your team is?

Not everybody. We only played 9 games because Vanderbilt cancelled on us and we couldn't find a replacement for the last game of the year. (Vandy had cancelled once before already)

At no point did he say Ealy wasn’t playing. It was just that he hasn’t practiced up to this point. This is bad journalism. He probably won’t play but he hasn’t been ruled out or been held out of the game up to this point.

Yeah, the quoted text states they "have both been held out of practice."

What happened to Ealy? Don't remember him getting hurt in our game. I remember Sanders getting hurt, surprised him playing this year is even possible. His injury looked pretty bad

Ealy left in the 3rd. His is just a sprain from what I understand but doubtful he will play or contribute much if he’s able.
Sanders is a more impactful injury. As you saw, once he went down Ole Miss really struggled to complete anything downfield.

He looked like he broke his foot on that catch in the endzone? Did it end up not being as bad as it looked?

Then a week later OM got beat by LSU. After signing day.

We’re gonna get destroyed by Indiana. I don’t even know how we are in the Outback bowl. I’d be kinda pissed if I was IU. They deserved a better opponent.

You seem upset. Understandable, you have a lot to be upset about....
Ole Miss finished with more wins than state even while playing less games
Ole Miss recruiting is ranked higher
Ole Miss is going to a better bowl game
Kiffin > Leach
Which of the above is troubling you the most friend? Whatever it is, you should cheer up! You have a big weekday morning game against Tulsa to look forward to!!!
