We lost Phil Niekro yesterday, December 26, 2020. Great Pitcher. Great Brave. Great Person.

When I first moved to Metro Atl I would listen to braves games on the radio. Ernie Johnson was broadcasting (didn't care for Milo Hamilton) and Phil Niekro was pitching, a bygone era. Both have gone on.

I went to 30-40 games a year during the 70s and 80s. The teams were awful but I enjoyed watching Phil and some of the other guys.

I'm not a baseball fan but I was a Knucksie fan. I hated the Dodgers. In my favorite game, Knucksie pitched 9 and shut out the Dodgers. The Braves won 1 to zero because Knucksie hit a homerun. Watching batters try to hit those pitches was comedy gold.

Aunt and uncle lived 8 blocks from old Atlanta Stadium when it was first built. Me, my Dad and uncle used to walk down Georgia Ave to the stadium. Great memories of lots of good times going to games there. I was sad when they blew it up.
Knucksie was one of my favorites. Another childhood hero gone.
