I’m all for shitting on Auburn but I think they made a great hire all things considered. They whiffed on their first couple guys and still ended up with a quality HC that is a solid B+ or A- hire. He could end up being the next Urban Meyer.
Truth is, there’s not any slam-dunk can’t-miss HCs out there at the moment. I still think Cristobal and Napier were the best of the bunch, and it appears we approached both before focusing in on Harsin, who seems to be the most attractive alternative of established HCs available to AU after those first two.
Will it work out? The vast majority of our fanbase on here is cautiously optimistic, even as we acknowledge that it’s a total crapshoot.
There are far fewer AU posters legitimately claiming he’s a sure thing than there are rival posters predicting he’s Chad Morris 2.0. Take that FWIW.

What’s funny to me about Alabama fans feeling of superiority is that anyone can be an Alabama fan. It’s not like you have actually done anything besides going to Wal Mart and buying a t-shirt out of the discount bin. But a lot of them seem to think that when other people see them in a Alabama shirt that they are jealous because they cannot be in such an elite club. It really is kind of comical.
It gives people without much going well in their lives something to rally behind and look forward to.
The problem is they’re known to murder each other when they lose.

The only gullible people are auburn cult members that believe that this clown was their first choice

And you believe he wasn’t because Auburn writers who have no info made up stories for clicks during the search

How fondly I remember a bammer hire banging bottom shelf strippers on the company card.

Well looks like Gus IS going home. With 21+ million dollars - money AU could have used on much needed stadium upgrades or freezers of meat. Maybe next time AU should ask around to see if any decent coach actually wants to come to Auburn before they fire a 21 million dollar guy. Old Aunt Gussie must be turning cartwheels down his driveway. 21 million and he doesn’t have to live in Auburn, Alabama anymore! He hit the jackpot!!

I can see why opposing fans would believe he wasn't going to win multiple national titles or several SEC titles. What about Auburn football over the last 40 years would make you think he'll do less than win the West and compete for it and maybe slip in an SEC title?

The Auburn job is somewhat of a catch-22...
One one hand, you have a destination job at an elite program with TONS of resources and cash... On the other hand and this is HUGE, any coach who accepts that job would have to deal with recruiting and going head to head with Nick Saban every year... The GOAT CFB who coaches as arguably the GOAT CFB(top 2-3 at worst), showing NO signs of slowing down as evidenced by MONSTER and I MEAN monster recruiting classes and is churning out NFL taken left and right... Now for the frightening part, there's no signs of any of this slowing down... Last year Saban had a "down year' by going 11-2(which is almost laughable when you think about it) and the only time he took an arse kicking was the first half of the LSU game... Then the first of this year, recruiting wasn't looking all that great and as usual like clockwork, you hear the same ole "the decline is real", Saban's recruiting is slipping, and the infamous RTWFU...
Fast forward to 12/26... Saban pulls in a an absolutely SICK recruiting class with 7 re recruits rated 5 star and tons of 3&4 star talent... )(It would seem that of the talk from the media and others poured gasoline on a man who already already has an inmate fire to be the best). On top of that he goes undefeated, wins the SEC in devastating fashion and is on the verge of winning his 7th national title..
All that to say, I just don't see any elite coach willing to walk into that... Firing Gus was a BIG BIG mistake... He is the only coach in our conference shown to be able to beat Saban in a consistent basis... Some of those were kinda fluky and none were blowouts but somehow he's been able to pull it off...
Elite coaches like Urban Meyer, Dabo Swinney, Nick Saban and even the VERY good ones like Dan Mullen, Lane Kiffin, Jimbo Fisher are very few and far between... I also think that while Gus was a good coach and innovative, he like Les Miles either didn't have the ability and/or the willingness to adapt... That's one of the reasons why Saban is so dominant... Which when you think about it is incredible... He is willing to adapt.. He's been willing to change his recruiting and 'on the field' tactics to win... He's willing to bring in coaches that others were willing to give a chance and tell the media to frick off.. Those strategic gambles have paid huge dividends and made some people, who doubted him, look like fools...
The man is almost like a damn football cyborg/savant... So yeah, it's gonna be VERY difficult for them to find a coach willing to become Saban's annual rival in arguably the historically fiercest rivalry in CFB.. On top of that, you have a rabid fanbase and administration who lives and breathes beating Alabama... That is NOT an ideal situation to walk into... It's potentially career suicide...
I understand their rationale, and this was probably driven by idiot boosters, but firing Gus was a big mistake and will set then back a few years..

Alabama, LSU and A&M. And Georgia in the SECC if these teams suffer massive injuries to their entire offense and defense.

You just described a lot of CFB fans.
L1U fans are almost as guilty as Bama fans when it comes to this.
I think some of the Clemson fans are sidewalkers as well.
Being a sidewalk fan is fine, but when you start acting superior and putting down people who are fans of the schools they actually went to, you kind of come off as an insecure clown.
Hell, even non-sidewalk fans can be bad when it comes to this. If you chose your school because of football, you are a dumb any way you slice it.

From the looks of your campus, stadium and all the yahoo fans I somehow got that impression. My apologies

The only coaches we seriously went after were Cristobal & Venables. The rest is literally bullshite
Posted on 12/26/20 at 2:13 pm to plazadweller
Yeah right. Top Coaches are literally drooling at the thought of living in Auburn Alabama and stocking up on TP for those big wins over Vandy and NW Central Idaho State.

We've beaten bama, LSU and A&M in the last two seasons. Again...the idea that Auburn is falling behind makes about as much sense as the idea that LSU is finished because of this season.

And yet AU just paid over 21 million to make the man who brought y’all this great success go away. Lol

NTY. No, he should have been fired in 2016. Good guy, but he is a Sun Belt type coach after the rules were changed. He was just over his head in the SEC
