Quitters gonna quit. Don't give a damn about them because they're...quitters.

What happened? When I was young no one tolerated a quitter. It was one of the worst things you could do.

Imagine telling an old-school coach like Bear Bryant or Vince Lombardi that you had decided to sit out a game due to personal or moral convictions.

Those days are long gone and guys like Derrick Brown are the very rare exception and there's obviously no shame and ridicule when these guys make the decision

They aren't really quitters because many of them never really wanted to play college football. They want to play in the NFL and once that dream is accomplished they may never step on campus again. They aren't fans. They don't think like fans. The goal was the NFL and opting out is the smart thing to do over playing in a meaningless bowl game.

Most of the guys skipping the bowl game are opting out to focus on the NFL draft, senior bowl time with NFL scouts, and combine training. They are making a business decision a lot of folks in their position would take.

I have no issue with bowl opt outs - they can actually be a good thing for young guys on the team for next year to get some playing time they would not have gotten. Mid-season opt outs are a little different. I agree that COVID has probably forced more than usual this year as a lot of the players have to follow very stringent contact tracing / testing protocols to play and it probably gets old.

So then the Sugar Bowls against Utah and OU did matter?
