Can someone explain this to me and why there is ANY validity to it? There projections have been shite for much of the year. They have a 2-3 Wisconsin team as #7 in the country, a 6-3 UT as #9, and an 7-1 A&M as #10.

Preseason projections are just media people throwing shite against the wall to see if it sticks.

That’s why this season will have an * by it.

Another casualty of COVID. The lack of non-conference games has made it impossible for the computers to compare teams across conferences.

FPI, like anything ESPN does, should be totally ignored

The way FPI is calculated makes it useless without OOC games and scrub teams on the schedule. It needs to be able to determine the gaps between conferences and how much better a given team is compared to vastly inferior competition.
TLDR: Conference only schedules frick up the FPI calculations
