Same. Cristobal first, Matt Campbell next. Would prefer P5 coach.

I would be happy with either of these coaches, but I am not totally against a G5 coach either. I mean let's be honest the Sun Belt may have more top 25 teams this year than the PAC12 does. They also have beat up on the Big12 this year. I know the stress of coaching at a P5 job is totally different, but let's not pretend like anybody out west really cares about football.

On that same note, I don't think that coaching in the PAC12, or Iowa for that matter, really prepares you a whole lot for what to expect when you get to the SEC and your rival is Alabama. I'm not sure a lot people on our list could be totally prepared for that, but it doesn't mean they can't show up and ball out. Firing Gus and trying to find the next homerun hire was always going to be a roll of the dice, but one we had to take.

In recent years, who came from one of those small programs that was the "next hot coach" has lived up to the hype and idea that they could run a big program?

Im not downing this idea, Im just thinking about who was hot and did not perform and who did?

Just off the top of my head. Add if you will

Scott Frost UCF - Nebraska - Meh
Justin Fuente Memphis - Virginia Tech - Meh
Tom Herman Houston - Texas - Meh
PJ Fleck WM - Minnesota - Not meh but not great either
Mike Norvell Memphis - Florida St -May be too early to tell

Who else you got?
Yeah, that's always going to be a risk. And you're right, many more of them fail than succeed. Dooley and Butch at UT come to mind as well. But then again, Matt Campbell came to ISU from Toledo.

It's pretty much like every other HC hire. For every hotshot coordinator who makes the jump to HC like Bob Stoops or Dan Mullen, there are dozens of Will Muschamps and Jermy Pruitts. Even 'proven' HCs with P5 championships on their resumes like Cristobal don't always work out (looking in your direction, Bert).

I think the only thing we can all agree on is that Kevin Steele would be a disastrous hire. Which probably means he'll get the gig, we'll all melt down, then AU will go 11-1 next year

There is probably one type of person I dislike on this planet more than any other, and that would be folks who run around loudly and proudly claiming moral superiority in the name of the one true God, all the while being total sleezeballs. Once they get caught, they use the 'moral failing' and 'fallen nature' as an excuse for their ridiculous choices and behavior.

Hugh Freeze is one of those guys and I don't want him anywhere near our young men.

Hugh Freeze also spends a lot of time searching his name on the internet and then DM'ing people who write about him.

In Steven Godfrey's series "Foul Play" about the whole Ole Miss/NCAA saga, there's a clip where Hugh Freeze texts him and says "thank you for seeking truth" and his friend just goes "That's the most Hugh Freeze shite ever."

Which, yeah. Anyone who has to tell you how good of a Christian they are, usually isn't a good Christian.

It is not in Oregon's culture to pay that much for a coach.

Yep. There's now way the Oregon liberalites will stand for a football coach getting a raise during the plague.

Urban Meyer made the jump from a lower conference and did pretty well for himself. Although that was what, 15 years ago now?

Another name that I'm surprised hasn't gotten a big time job is Urban's successor at Utah, Kyle Wittingham. I would be pretty happy if we hired him, but haven't heard his name at all. Although, there may be a reason he has been stuck at Utah for 15+ years now. Maybe he loves it out there and is content to stay. Never know the mindset on some of these guys.

Stop. There’s nothing going around regarding an extension other than UO’s BOT is meeting on it

Guessing Cristobal was on the top of your wish list?

I’ve stated from the beginning that I’d prefer Matt Campbell.

But you posting blatantly false information is annoying.

I haven’t really paid much attention to football outside of the SEC this year, did Fleck have a bad year? Is that Why his name isn’t being tossed around?

Surprised he hasn’t made more people’s list. Wouldn’t be surprised if his name eventually popped up.

As far as the BOT meeting, most schools are in a salary freeze. They would have to sign off on any “offer” that would include a raise. The meeting itself won’t end the speculation and I sincerely doubt it’s a “show” meeting just to approve a contract that’s already accepted. The saga continues...

Mario says on Monday that he wants to stay and they are working on an extension.

Oregon has 20 players sign today and currently have the 6th ranked class nationally.

UO Board of Trustees puts out a press release regarding a contract extension for their football HC today.

All signs point towards Mario staying at Oregon. That is my opinion and I think most would agree.

Not sure how I posted "blatantly false information"? Are opinions outlawed on the board now?
