I remember just shaking my head when he would bring him in for two wildcat snaps a game and call a run. He didnt need to start him, just give him some meaningful snaps later in games and......let him throw it.
We see the result...for georgia....and Ohio State (five TD passes) yesterday.
Ironic that decision may cost Kirby his job instead of that elusive natty.

Honestly at the time, I think he made the right decision. Now hind site is always better but at the time Fromm looked like the right choice

I agree. I think we live in a world where these young men just aren't going to wait for a chance. The kid backing up Trevor at Clemson IMO wouldn't be there if he wasn't certain Trevor was going pro next season.

I mean, that year Fromm took them to the natty after beating Oklahoma in the playoffs and playing at a very high level.
If he beat the guy out and played that well, he was the right choice. 99% of the time, you can not have 2 quarterbacks playing. Its just not a great recipe.
Fromm beat him out, he played excellent, dude made up some story and left. I honestly think Kirby made the correct call at the time...

I'm not sure what Fields was thinking, but I believe he assumed Fromm would go pro after his Junior year. That still had him sitting possibly 2 years.

Every time he looks and sees Stetson Bennett under center.
Except when they play us. It doesn't matter if I was playing QB for the mutts. They would still whip Auburn. Imagine if they DID have Fields against us...

I agree Fromm was the right choice, no argument there. I just question why, when they were up by a good margin, Fromm already had plenty of reps, why not put Fields in and let him sling it so he can see there is some progress.
But then as you guys have stated, with the portal rules, gone are the days when a good/great future starter will be willing to sit on the bench. Pretty soon college will look like the NFL where you have to have a roster to keep up with your favorite team.
Trivia, I saw this on a documentary, take it for what its worth, the last Chuck Noll Steelers Super Bowl winner was the last time an entire team was entirely home grown.
