think it was Cook who gave up a first down at Kentucky

He got one and missed and didn't "give up" yards. He avoided tackles to get in position to get
the 1st down.No different than any scat back or WR that's ever played.

That kind of stuff drives me crazy and can cost you games. There are times to go for additional yardage and times to plant your foot and take the one yard and first down.

Its so much easier to rip a guy for "vision" or "bad cuts" from the couch. The positives outweigh the negatives with the vast majority of these including Cook and Pickens (who does the same thing)

not going down on first contact, which is a welcome addition
Another very exaggerated narrative.

He's been our most explosive player on offense this year and it's good to see Monken take advantage of his talent and speed
(he's our fastest RB)

You give up yards when you don't take them. Semantics, maybe.

But you have to get the first down first. That is your #1 goal unless you are absolutely positive you can break it. If you don't get the first down you put your team in the position of giving up the ball.

We can disagree. Not sure where you played, but in a lot of teams if you give up first downs too many times you will find a seat on the bench. Yes. They all do it from time to time, but you had better pick up the first down if you don't break it.

No it's not. have you watched him from the past two years?

Key words: This year. Which is why I said it is a welcome addition.
