he just didnt love football. most folks around him knew he liked hoops and soccer much more
he also didnt spend his money he made while in the NFL and is allegedly set for life now.

Matt Jones wanted to play in the NBA instead but the NFL was his best chance to make the pros. His lack of desire was evident at Jacksonville. He butted heads with Jack Del Rio because he didn't take his job very seriously.
Then he got arrested on Dickson Street for cutting up credit cards and snorting drugs. Went to drug court in Fayetteville.
Matt Jones didn't have coaches that could make him more disciplined. He was Nutt's golden goose because he played a big part of saving his job back in the years of 2001-2003.
I remember his very first TD against Weber St. Back in 2001, 65 yards untouched down the sideline. Nutt was in trouble and had serious QB issues and so he took the redshirt off in a desperate move.
If Matt Jones weren't on campus then Nutt would have been fired much sooner.
