they need to turn their efforts towards the NFL and gaining entry as 18 or 19 year olds. colleges are now closer to dropping scholarships and returning to student athletes

Sure they could do that. I don’t know that the NFL is willing to sort through the high school recruitment process like colleges do. Dominant players in high school regularly flop in college. Not to mention 19 year olds are no where close to physically mature enough for the NFL game.

There really isn’t a financial incentive (see XFL flops) either.

The reality is 10% of college players at most even have a shot at the NFL, and on the off chance they make it the career span is an average of 2.5 years.

A free education is not a bad trade off for your talents.

It was actually a great setup for the players, the schools AND the NFL.
