He was the true heir to Bryant as a football coach - he just ended up being it across the state

I have hinted at it over the years, but due to respect for him, I never discussed details. Pat Dye had a system in place where he took care of kids that were in the most need. Not every player received money and it wasn't used for recruiting. It allowing kids to be college students. who the NCAA turned their back on. It was a system he brought to AU from his Bama days with Bryant. Eric Ramsey, his wife and Donald Watkins sold him out for different reasons. But Dye loved his players and the above example is why they loved him.
