Having many, many many Longhorns as friends and family members, I have listened to many, many post-mortems on the Mack Brown regime.

Based on that line of thinking, Bama did not break anything. The Texas loss was just another symptom of the inner weakness of the Mack Brown regime per everyone. He ran pampering, country club program and his players never overachieved with the big exception of Vince Young.

Colt's dad running to the locker room and him sitting out the game was no different than Chris Simms puling himself from the 2001 Big 12 title loss to the Buffs because of a finger injury (and tons of interceptions). Cedric Benson (God rest his soul) broke out in tears on draft night because he didn't want to play for the Bears. The Sooners would roll them to the tune of 50 point drubbings despite not much of a talent gap between the two teams.

That is the crazy thing . . . Texas had a stellar 10 year run but it seemed like an under-achievement given the extreme talent on those Longhorn squads. I do think they should have won more IMO. I would remember them barely crap-arse Iowa State squads despite being loaded with future NFL players an d my cousins all melting down.

Oh well . . .then they went and got Charlie Strong and here we are.

I agree, with most of this. He pulled in huge recruiting classes and you could say he underachieved relative to that. But didn't McCoy's arm go numb? Just a freak injury

I think you are right on with most of what you said. It was a country club environment at Texas. Mack is/was an elite recruiter, and obviously a good coach. With that said, the atmosphere was a difference maker when it came to the Horns and Sooners. How two programs with pretty much even talent could produce so many blowouts is crazy.

He went 7-9 against the Sooners. That’s not too shabby at all. The beatdowns in 2000 and 2003 were brutal. They gave up over 50 4 times out of the 9 losses.

I do think Colt's injury is legit bc I don't think he'd start every game for 4 years just to tap out in his last game, but it's not like it's the first time he's ever been injured. Truth is, he was a good qb just not a guy that can take punishment. A career NFL backup, which he's still making a living out of ha
