Three more than A&M, MooU, Ole Missus, Georgia, South Carolina, Vandy, Tennessee, Kentucky and Arky for starters

Did Saban stay?

Did he return to LSU?

I really think that LSU owes its sustained high level of football to Bama to some degree, as does Bama to LSU.

Rightfully or wrongfully feeling jilted and then betrayed by CNS was a primer for the rivalry. It drove competition in all areas. The competitiveness was at an all time high in 2011. The way that season played out and each year after has supercharged the game for many.

Fans can say what they want, but it is most certainly a rivalry game to players, coaches and staffs.

Saban still does well at Bama, but I think overall they are better for having LSU and Auburn push them.

Without Bama (specifically with Saban), I'm not sure LSU sustains the intensity and competitiveness of the 2000s this deep into the 2010s.

That makes no damn sense.

Saban was just getting it going when he left LSU
Biggest thing Saban did was keep talent at LSU and showed those guys you would win a title at LSU
That continues to pay dividends and the overall facility upgrades he demanded but everyone can do that with sec money flowing in
With Saban at least 5 titles

During the bear era things were different with player roster management
What if bear arrives in Arkansas and takes that job and never makes it to bama

your not wanting it to apply, doesn't mean that it doesn't apply.

But, to each his own.

If Saban stayed at LSU, I think LSU would have added titles in 2006, 2011, and 2012 to 2003 and 2007 for sure.

Beyond that it gets a bit harder to predict but it would not be unreasonable to think we would've played for a one or two others.

The better question IMO, is where would Bama be in the 2000s without Saban?

Depends a lot on where Saban lands after his stint with the Dolphins. I am going to say at least as many as they have now with a good chance at one or two more. 2011 would be an almost certainty but we don't know how a different coaching landscape would have changed things from 2012-2019.

I'm going to say 3-4.

I’d guess probably at least 2-3 more titles

But I do agree that Bama-LSU “push” each other constantly which makes both programs better in the long run overall.

Its been too one sided.

The W-L column yes. But, the context of the game always has a rivalry build over the 2 week run up to the game. It is a big game that is circled on each calendar EVERY year.

6 of the last 10 games have been top 5 matchups (throwing out the NCG - it is still 5 of the last 10 regular season games were top 5 matchups with a pair of top 10 games in the mix). All of those were of course in November or later when rankings are much more accurate.

There are 0 unranked matchups;7 x 1 possession games since 2007; 8 x single digit wins; 3 x OTs; and only 3 x games that were > a 2 possession game.

The 8 game streak and disparity in # of titles and title game appearances likely make it feel more one sided than it actually is.

Since the "Les is More" signs and burning Saban effigies in 2008, it has been the marquee matchup in the SEC much more often than not.

Very thought provoking post Herman.

I would say as many as Bama has.

But I’ll need to think about it some more.

Hope you and your family are doing well.

Tell Harry I said hello.
