CDC estimates 20,000+ deaths so far this season via influenza. Corona, a whole lot less. Why the panic? You are much more likely to catch and die from influenza. Why was the “government “ trying to kill us by allowing us attend March Madness all these years with the risk of catching the deadly flu? Please advise.

How fast it’s spreading and a higher mortality rate. This isn’t hard

I'm formally accusing you of being Eternal Elephant.

Yet,. The infectious rate and mortality rate is multiple times worse than the flu. That's why.

Everyone I have talked to who work in healthcare say the media are greatly overhyping it. Practice good hygiene and use common sense and you are good.

I’ll simply refer you to the CDC for correction.

Dude, the flu has been around for as long as we have, and we know all we need to know about it and how it spreads. We also have a vaccine for the flu. Coronavirus is a new virus that we don't really know much about and there is no vaccine, and won't be one for another year. The mortality rate is also much higher and it's spreading quite fast. Ask Italy if this virus is serious or not.

You’re going to get flamed for not being an alarmist

Try telling that to health officials in Italy where it has overrun their health system.

How many corona deaths in Italy? How many flu deaths? I get you want to be hyped about it.

Should we listen to the advice of epidemiologists and public health experts about slowing and minimizing the spread of this virus, or should we not?
If you're sure you know better than people who have spent their lives studying communicable diseases, just say so.

I told you to check with the CDC. Use their numbers. I can’t convince you either way my man.

Stop with the flu comparisons you dumb bastard. It's not a reasonable comparison.

I will forward your concerns to the proper authorities. I didn’t realize that I was the only person to compare this to the flu. My bad.

Right. Thank you for saying that. The flu is a total motherfricker that has eradicated hundreds of millions of human beings over the course of history.
Corona beer and it's associated virus haven't even reached 5,000 deaths yet, most of those being in China.
More level-headed, reasonable posters like you are needed at this time here on this board.
For everyone reading, please don't compare the flu to the Coronavirus, they aren't comparable.

COVID has a higher transmission and mortality rate than flu. That's why they don't compare.
I went to school with people who do this stuff for a living, and I work with people who do this stuff. I don't know which health officials some of you are talking to, but after being somewhat optimistic that this was going to get under control, it's been the last few days of talking to personal friends who are epidemiologists and medical doctors that have swayed me to take this seriously. When people who you know to be good scientists tell you as matter of factly as if they are telling you the weather that this will likely be an issue for at least the next three months and kill a helluvalot more people, unless you are just you got more chest than sense, you listen.
It's not going to end civilization, but it is going to be a rough couple of months. Be cool, don't panic, but don't be foolish.

I was talking to some of my friends and a few of my cousins and my Dad and my father-in-law and his side piece and they all were saying that this virus named Corona has only killed around two thousand or so people in shithole China were it originated.
And then my wife chimed in and said that the virus is already on a downturn in shithole China and they are in recovery from it already.
Now, I don't know about you, but I respect the frick out of their opinions and take them very seriously.

--Calm down. Sure it's infectious, what type of
influenza's not---and they don't always guess correctly on the strain of flu used in vaccines, so at best, your vaccine may help in keeping it from being worse.
--Higher mortality rate ? While at this time that might appear to be the case, many health officials think not necessarily and perhaps no different from typical viruses brought out of Asia."
--"The mortality rate is more likely around 1-percent
or less and most of those are elderly with compromised immune systems who struggle most with seasonal common strains of flu."
--"A large study just released out of China shows
over 80-percent who get Corona virus are simply mild cases."
--"Why is the mortality rate higher in Italy ?
Italy has the oldest population in Europe---and
many of the deaths from Corona in Italy have been among those 80 to 90-years-old, the same demographic that any virus is deadliest among."
--"Health officials have no idea how many people have
mild bouts of Corona that are going unreported."
If you'd like to verify this above all the panic and running around in circles & media scare, you'll find any number of legitimate reports saying the same
thing as the one I've included :

Yeah, but Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson now have coronavirus and that makes it more real.
They are rich people who are progessive; they matter, and the virus still attacked them.
It's already been reported about 300,00 times on every single network, news outlet, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc... that they do in fact have coronavirus.
Meanwhile, not a single report on Gladys, the mill worker in Georgia, who also contracted the virus.
Her case hasn't even made the local papers.
So it attacks the good people who matter and the shite people who don't matter; that is scary.
