For my MSU brothers, I got to thinking something yesterday. Our ex coach Richard Williams does play-by-play for our program the last few years. Well, he sits next to our announcer and is relied on during games.

When he was our coach(before the relationship with you know who) he was a very good coach.

MSU disassociated him from our program but now he’s back and in the booth. Listening to him you can tell he knows basketball. In 1995 he took us to the sweet 16. In 1996 he took us to the final-4.

With that being said, and our forgiveness of him bringing him back to our campus, I can’t help but wonder if he follows Howland as our next HC. You’d have to think he’s itching to coach Miss State again. I mean 191 wins, he wants back in.

I personally think it’s a no brainer. Your thoughts?

It's a no brainer and the perfect go-between after Howland retires. The guy has plenty left in the tank for a few years. His knowledge is unsurpassed.

Moo State bringing in a guy that hasn't coached in 25+ years? Sign me up!

Guy knows more about basketball than a lot of current coaches.

But he probably can't recruit at this day and age. Seems like a dumb move to "retire" a guy in his early 60 a to hire an even older coach

Maybe, but if you listen to him doing color on the radio, when he says something we are doing wrong and then correct it, we always win. And you can also tell when he’s frustrated that we are not adjusting to something. I think he could win, I really do.

Let me ask you this, do you think he would do worse with our talent currently?

Richard Williams is 74 years old. Good idea Gump. Bring back Ron Polk for old time sake. Go ahead and Dig up Emory Bellard so it will the 1980's again.

College basketball in 2020 is different than it was in 1997.

Maybe but he wouldn't do a great job of replacing that talent.

To be clear I love Richard Williams and all he did for this basketball program and quite frankly what he is doing for this program. But "retiring" Howland for a guy that's 12 years older would be even dumber than our decision to rehire Ron Polk in the 2000s.

Any MSU fan that doesn't appreciate what Stansbury and Williams did for us just isn't living in reality.

But at the same time at the big picture, any MSU fan that doesn't see that Howland has improved this cellar dweller to a top 4 SEC team this year is insane. I know it took longer than some programs, but we had a completely new team year 2 which was essienatially year 1. We've improved since then.
