Generally a 5-star transfer isn’t quite the same as a 5-star straight out of HS unless a QB (Fields, Murray, etc).

Take your very own 5-star transfer DE Brenton Cox. He had attitude issues and had troubles breaking through at UGA.

Generally there is baggage with a 5-star transfer - so if you want to tout the transfers go ahead if it helps ya

Just curious what other 5 star players do you have on your roster that have attitude issues and trouble breaking through? I never heard a peep about this guy until he entered the transfer portal, then all of a sudden he had been a miserable SOB the whole time.

So go ahead and list them and we can come back and revisit this. Thanks in advance.

There was a moment on field where Deandre Walker got into it with the kid due to some effort issues. You may not have heard them, but it was pretty well known throughout his freshman year. That doesn't mean he's not talented... just that he didn't seem to shine in the "must compete all the time to earn playing time" grind that Smart operates under. Additionally, he was red-flagged as a recruit for a lot of the same stuff before we were ever in the picture. Many UGA fans shrugged it off once he signed, but clearly, the initial indicators were a pretty good read on the situation.

Fortunately for UF, once a kid transfers, they kind of are in "no more second chances" mode... I anticipate that Cox will be a solid addition for you all in 2020, despite his troubles in Athens.

I like Cox. He is a physical freak.

He comes with issues (off and on the field). On the field, he was unbearably poor at keeping contain against the run. It was a lack of awareness and in his teammates eyes a lack of effort. That can be coached for the most part (grantham is great at that). He is 3 years removed from high school. There is a chance that he can put it all together. At UGA, you either have it together or are deep on the bench at such a loaded position like OLB. He was just a freshman and sophomore so that tells you where he saw himself at UGA.

Fibonacci and Meansonny did a great job explaining to you both the attitude and effort issues with Brenton Cox at UGA.

Maybe he will improve on both at UF - for his sake, I hope he does.

For me, it's primarily just a function of playing time. He was not good enough to displace players ahead of him at UGA. He also played a position where our depth probably ranks top 5 nationally. Very similar with Otis Reese who just transferred out, he was a very talented kid. But as you know, these kids get better as they get older. Or at least they are supposed to. So Florida was probably just a better fit for Cox because he will easily start. Dont think it's a big negative for either program just a function of roster depth and talent. Also, most 19 year olds have attitude issues so I'm not real concerned there. I am more bummed about Reese than Cox but it's just a by-product of what Kirby has assembled.
