Some conclusions: LSU (and Clemson) don't have the national brand to pull a bigger audience.
Emmert and ESPN execs will take notice. CFB is not in the sports business but in the television business. LSU (and Clemson) are bad for business.

So, you’re now saying you need help to get back to the championship game because the “eye test,” Refs, and paying players in recruiting is all no longer working for you?

For perspective, the Ravens v Titans playoff game, which featured both of Alabama's Heisman winners, had more viewers than this year's national championship...31 million viewers.
