You're right, it is ridiculous, but I really don't thinkg the HD videoboards are as cool as they seem.
I went to the opening night at the Nationals new park and that was a huge HD vidoboard. Sure it's nice, but it's not really noticeable liek you think it would be.
Plus, they're still Mississipi State

it's just the principle of the thing at this point.

Sad to say but thats just like the Royals ultra huge big screen. You can only make bad football/baseball look so good.

For all 25,000 fans who are at the game to see?

On the plus side, it's good they are not using that money to meaningfully improve the football progam and make it more competive.

Well, I wish they would of gotten it last year, they could of watched all of our highlights in better quality.

What's funny is that some of the biggest and best stadium's in the country have some of the smallest video boards at the same time. Look at tOSU, Michigan, Tennesse, LSU, Florida, Coliseum, Rose Bowl, etc. And the ones getting the bigger HD boards are some of the smaller stadiums in the country like Ole Miss, Miss. St., USM, Arkansas and others. Seems like a penis envy type thing going on here. They can't drum up enough people to support their football programs and fill their stadiums. They have to do something else to help build interest in their programs ($6 million is a lot cheaper than an expansion/renovation). It's sort of like putting a sock in your pants to draw attention away from other deficiencies.
As they say, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. In this case, I bet anyone of those smaller schools would trade their big HD screen for Tiger Stadium's size and fan support.
Also, keep in mind, both Miss. St. and Ole Miss, among many other schools, had video boards before LSU got theirs in 1999. Their boards were nearing the end of their life expectancies. It only stands to reason we have a few more years of use left in our existing boards before we may "need" to upgrade.

Hell that thing is as big as their 1-AA stadium.

They need to be able to see the UGLY football they are playing in HD to recognize the fact that they or horrible. This new addition to the stadium will do just that.

We're getting a new screen in the north end zone next year. Ten years is a lot of time especially in the world of technology.

The complaint I have about ours is that the ads are 3 times the size of ths screen - its ridiculous.

LSU is getting something next year. They're looking into South upper expansion, and don't want to buy a big board now if it cannot be used in the new configuration.

hey I'm all for building one, but I hope you all don't start raising hell when ticket prices go up.

i think a big reason though is a lot of those stadiums have open endzones where one can easily be put. seriously where would we put something that big in TS. Im sure they could figure it out but it would probably cost a lot more.

Some believe that it's proof that they are going to be closing in the endzones, because why spend the money on a new board if you're just going to have to bring it down.
