Just because his team’s defense doesn’t suck allowing him more opportunities to throw the ball, doesn’t mean he can’t.

If a defense can't get off the field, one would expect the offense to have fewer opportunities, not more. I don't think Lawrence is overrated, but this doesn't help that argument. How bout we look at some efficiency based stats instead of overall numbers

YPA
Burrow 10.9
Lawrence 9.3

Rating
Burrow 204.6
Lawrence 173.25

And since it has been brought up that Lawrence sits the second halves of games, let's compare their 1st half numbers

Yards
Burrow 3463 (more than Lawrence has total)
Lawrence 2387

TDs
Burrow 38
Lawrence 26

INTs
Burrow 3
Lawrence 5

Rating
Burrow 213.85
Lawrence 176.51

Comp %
Burrow 79.3
Lawrence 69.5

Passing attempts
Burrow 305
Lawrence 259
*in 14 games, that amounts to about 3 more passing attempts per half

Barring injury Lawrence will and should be the #1 pick in the draft next season, but there really is no way to argue he's been in the same universe this season as Burrow.

the argument is that Clemsons D did a better job over the course of the season keeping the games in blowout status...therefore less throwing.
