Aschoff would have won a Pulitzer if he hadn’t been taken so soon. Young man was incredibly accomplished period, but especially for his age.
This news really bummed me out today and hit home more than usual for someone I didn’t know personally and had never met.
He was one of my favorite football writers and has been since 2011 or so.
I’ve been reading his columns for almost a decade and didn’t even know he was a UF alum until he wrote that recent article on a Clyde Edwards-Helaire, his father and his stepfather. He was a true journalist. If he had any bias, it never showed.
The journalism profession needs more guys like Aschoff. He was among the very best.
I’d have loved to see what he would have accomplished had he been given another 30 years. Tragic loss for the SEC, sports and journalism in general.
