When we hired Musselman I went to the Nevada boards like a lot of you probably did and what I noticed was that they all seemed to love him. The vast majority of fans hated to see him go, but also wished him well.

Same thing with Sam Pittman. Georgia fans love the guy and all talk about his coaching ability being top notch.

Barry Odom was a little mixed bag due to his middling success as a head coach but he is respected as a person and revered as a defensive specialist. They weren't sad to see him leave but they don't hate him.

I am a little shocked to see how FSU fans have shown nothing but love to Kendal Briles. You see people on the rant trying to downplay the hire by pointing out they had the 68th ranked offense or whatever, but it seems their fans have nothing but great things to say about him as a play caller.

I don't remember anyone from SMU being upset about Chad leaving and I did the unnecessary mental gymnastics to convince myself we weren't uber fricked with this hire. Wisconsin fans were doing back flips when we took Bert off their hands and I remember thinking they were dumb as hell at the time.

You wouldn't trust a normal fan to call plays for you or run your program but you can definitely get a good idea of what to expect from your coach by how they perceive him.

I'm not sipping the koolaid I'm fricking bathing in it. We back. It's just a matter of time.

All that is good. And I don't mind admit that I"m drinking the kool-aid too. But reality is we don't know how well Pitt will manage his coaches and his players. This is his first go around as a head coach.

He could take time to learn or he might be a natural. I'm optimistically pessimistic at this point.

Flea, it’s because they ranked damn near dead last in all offensive categories before Briles became OC. They were absolutely terrible Taggarts first season on O.

It’s because SMU boosters hated Morris with a passion and we’re glad to see him go. He was viewed as a prick and believed there, like here, he was the smartest guy in the room.

True and if people want to stay cautious with their expectations then more power to them. I'm going to spend the next 9 months believing we'll see improvement. Life is better when you have hope. I do believe his success depends on his relationship with his assistants.

We now have grown men as coaches on a mission.

The recruiting can't help but pick up.

Having watched Muss,it can't be more apparent how important real coaching is.Not a system, but fundamentals and a frickin plan that can be adjusted.

I have hopes, and expect, this football program will see significant progress in short order like we've seen in basketball.

I'm pumped about football like I haven't been in years.

Hey. Don't misunderstand me. Pitt is without a doubt an upgrade from the previous douchebag. But my great Aunts count hairs would be an upgrade from Chaggy.

The only thing that gives me reservations is that Sam has never been in this position before. And its not an easy thing. Being the CEO of the entire staff and every single player on the team is a HUGE step up in responsibility. He has to do a really good job of delegating without interfering. All those ego's players and coaches have to be managed.

Having said that I could see this being the best hire since Petrino. But I'll also admit that after being let down by hire after hire there is some concern that he could fall flat on his face. Next years schedule is tough. There will be growing pains. Lets hope he has what it takes to hold it together in the face of adversity and with a team that is accustomed to quitting. Those are my reservations, merited or otherwise.

I remember not being thrilled about Morris but was glad Bert was gone and thought a spread offense gave us a better chance with our recruiting limitations.

However there were many early warning signs:
1. He got severely out recruited the first year even by the new head coaches.
2. The first spring game was dysfunctional. No tempo, the offense could barely line up right.
3. Then the first CSU game confirmed everything that would happen the next 2 years. Chode’s ineptitude at game planning, game management and making adjustments was on full display.

I agree. He's done well with his limited time in keeping the kids we can't afford to leave from transferring and he worked magic in holding the class together and adding some unexpected talent.

Somebody posted on the Rant that he had head coaching experience at the Juco level. This is definitely a step up, but with the staff he's assembling, it looks like he has a plan and was just looking for an opportunity to execute it.

I won't lie. I was really hoping for Norvell, but when Pittman's named popped up early on I was more than a little intrigued to see what he could do. I wasn't disappointed when he was announced. I had already braced myself for the Butch Davis show. I think we're going to be real happy with our program soon.

I find it interesting that Briles is known for his offensive prowess, especially having a strong running game set up the pass, vice versa... but he emphasizes running often.. or has in the past.

Then Odom has emphasized stopping the run first... then the Pass.

Can you imagine those two going at it in practice... Yes Sir!

I believe he got two coordinators who understand how important it is to win at the LOS which is key imo. It’s good to get guys who understand and emphasize this
