Why Hasn't Josh Henson Been Fired Yet?

I fear we are seeing a repeat of what got Jimbo in trouble at FSU. Hanging on to bad assistants. The Aggie OL, once the pride of the offense, has become laughing stock. Not quite matador grade but getting close. The talent is there, the coaching is not. Time for him to hit Highway 6.

I agree with this. Needs to happen sooner rather than later. No way should he be on the sideline of the bowl game.
edit ... to be clear I am talking about the coach not the talent. I don't know if we have the talent or not. The play was so bad I just have a hard time believing we are terrible physically across the board. Maybe we are.

I think you need to simmer down. Henson isn't getting fired now or ever. Jimbo told Turner he was not renewing his contract last year specifically because he wanted to hire Henson.
He wasn't a backup choice. And he wasn't an unknown quantity. Henson had worked for Jimbo previously and, given his new unlimited resources, he was exactly who Fisher wanted.
All that said, it's been a rough transition. That can't be argued. But Henson has had consistent success elsewhere so if you believe in Jimbo, you need to put down the pitchforks.

Sorry but not only am I not putting down my pitchfork I am going to pour gas on it and light it.
Seriously though... at some point someone has to be held responsible for this cluster of a line. Just cannot imagine that line play like this would be tolerated at Bama, LSU, Auburn, UGA, Florida, etc... someone would be held accountable and fired.
Tom Herman just fired some folks he thought were very good when he hired them. This stuff happens.

You're not really making a good case
Rushing Offense
Oklahoma State: 2018 (48th) -> 2019 (16th)
Texas A&M: 2018 (34th) -> 2019 (74th)
Sacks Allowed
Oklahoma State: 2018(98th) -> 2019 (t53rd)
Texas A&M: 2018 (113th) -> 2019 (t108th)
Oklahoma State got much better on the line after Henson left while A&M has gotten worse.

I know the guy sports a good resume, but I’m not sold on what he’s bringing to our team right now. I doubt jimbo fires him after just one year, but he should be on a short leash for next year.
One of the very few things Sumlin got right during his time here was tossing Christainsen after just one season. It was painfully obvious the guy was a liability to the program. Hopefully we are overreacting from just one year of results, but next years offensive line will be heavily scrutinized.
I do agree that we don’t have great depth to work with, but we still have enough there that we should look better than what we did this year.

For God’s sake, people, settle down about the OL.
No, the current starters are largely NOT a good group for Fisher’s offense. The current O-Linemen were selected and recruited for their ability to play in Sumlin’s offense, and they are not well-suited for Fisher’s very-different offense. Add to that the fact that we had few “spares” because Sumlin wasted too many scholarships on too many receivers.
A big-arsed offensive lineman is not mature and really ready to play in the big league until age 20 or so. This is why teams ALWAYS redshirt offensive linemen, when they have that option. They need to grow them for another year. The fact that we were starting a true freshman is probably the single best indicator that we simply did not have the correct personnel on-hand when Fisher arrived.
As Fisher’s recruits physically-mature, things will improve on the OL. He is recruiting the wide loads that are required for HIS offense.

While I understand the lineman Sumlin recruited may not be best for Fishers offense you can say the same for LSU. They have gone from a power running/play action team to a passing team in the same 2 years with little drop off, if any, on the line.
Something ain’t right. We went from mediocre last year to horrible. I’m not sure a single team in the SEC W or E would trade lines with us. That is saying something. I’m not even sure more than 1 or 2 teams in the B12 would trade for ours.

Not taking up for Henson, but or OL talent is bad. Not bad for Fishers scheme, just bad. We trotted out 1 true freshman who should of redshirted & the rest were low 3 stars. Guess how many of Moore, C. Green, Hocker, McCollum, and Prater were top 100 recruits in the state? Not a one. That is piss poor and not Henson's fault. And we have had a guard playing LT for 3 years, because we have no one else. But they did seem to get worse, which is the problem I have with Henson. But do not kid yourself into thinking we have SECW talent on the OL. Rankings were closer to SMU than LSU coming in as recruits.
I'm not in love with the 2020 class either. Looks like 4 good looking guards to me. Better prospects than Hocker or McCollum for sure, but I wish we'd go after some natural tackles. Maybe Morris can play some tackle, as he has real talent. But you don't see many good 6'3 tackles.

Is this true? I thought Turner went to the Bengals. Did he go bc of this? That seems extremely stupid to not renew a guy that is NFL caliber.

Mike Sherman/Turner recruited their hell out of OL and coached them up well. This is what A&M needs. Granted the SEC is much harder than Big 12, but that 2012 OL was legit.
Jimbo is a smart football coach, and has strong connections. He better get the OL fixed. His choice of Mike Elko at DC was brilliant, so I’m not discounting his decision making yet.

We need Guards in order to run the ball.

Sure we need guards, but we really need tackles. We played a guard at LT and an oversized TE at RT for the last 3 years. That is because tackles are way harder to get. We are hoping Kenyon can play tackle although built like a guard and Shepherd comes in and behaves. Would love a true tackle in this class. I don't get it.

Who is the oversized TE? Carson Green?

Turner has never shown signs he knows what he's looking at. He's essentially a drill sergeant. Mike Sherman is one of the most gifted OL coaches and scouts of all time. What did Turner do or recruit once Sherman's players were gone?

Josh Henson man, we hated him at Mizzou as an OC. At least he's just an OL coach with you guys, even if he sucks.
