This is dumb. The G5 teams are actually treated way better today than they have at any point in history.

The AP hasn't changed it's format.

Similar to some of these discussions about the playoffs, they had the perfect scenario for it to happen, too.
Only 1 power 5 team had 1 loss and 0 ties (Washington).........but that team didn't win the Pac 12 and go to the Rose Bowl, USC did.
Florida went 9-1-1, Nebraska 10-2, Boston College 10-2 and 3 SWC teams went 10-2/9-2-1.
And even then, it is pretty patently absurd that BYU won the national title that year. Their big season opening win over #3 Pitt ended up being a win over 3-7-1 Pitt. They didn't beat a SINGLE TEAM ranked in the final AP Top 25. And, of course, they beat Michigan in the Holiday Bowl on a hail mary. Michigan went 6-6.
