You're a poor student of history. Saban is 68. He had a student deferment for his first year of college. The lottery started in late 1969 and he wasn't a part of the initial lottery because of his age. The second lottery was in 1970. These were randomly assigned numbers and it determined who was called. Maybe he had a good lottery number.
My lottery number was in the mid 150s in first (1969) lottery and I was never called. Does that make me a dodger?

True. But, when the lottery went into place, educational deferments to the age of 24 were allowed for to all enrolled (before Sept '71) and in good standing. So, even if he hadn't been "lucky" and was age eligible, he would have been deferred like 1000s of others enrolled in college.
Saban was in school from '70-'75 between his undergrad and master's degree.
