his should have backed them up ten yards which changes the complexion of the drive entirely.
How? At worst you are getting offsetting penalties for the pass interference? Joe was going to Marshall the whole time.

I understand that these things can go both ways, but AU’s best asset is their defensive line and the officials’ failure to police the holding neutered their effectiveness and directly assisted LSU’s offensive success in both sustaining drives (further exhausting the defense) and on scoring plays. I would like to think LSU fans could empathize with this perspective but many seem incapable of recognizing their paradoxical rationale.

Right. At worst. At best? Burrow gets sacked.
I agree there was a bad PI call on LSU. The refs also missed multiple holds that went in LSU's favor as did the 3rd down and goal spot, and that late 3rd down forward progress spot that had to be reviewed.
No one is pretending that LSU didn't have a few bad calls -- penalty or otherwise -- during the game.
And I've already said it elsewhere, but Auburn has their opportunities and blew almost all of them. That's not on anyone but Auburn.
However, it is true that from about the 2nd quarter through the end of the 3rd quarter that LSU's O-line was holding with reckless abandon. Spare me the bullshite about there being holding on every play. Everyone is well aware of that. What people don't like is when there are multiple blatant and egregious holds that don't get called.
The officiating didn't cost Auburn the game. Their execution on offense, particularly at the QB position, is what cost them the game.
But, for LSU fans to pretend like they didn't get away with some egregious holds is beyond ridiculous. If a team had kept holding a stellar LSU D-line like LSU did to Auburn's, there'd be a GoFundMe with 100k in for billboards on the front page of the Rant right now.
I think all most people are saying is to stop being fricking hypocrites.
