He's talked about as a good coach, probably top 10-15? And that's generally where his teams are.
Kind of like Mark Richt was. Recruited well, underachieved, and generally lost a couple of big games a year..and that's why Richt is now out of coaching.

Mark Richt had the greatest recruiting situation in college football. Brian Kelly recruits to a cold weather school that is closer to Stanford and Vanderbilt in terms of kids they can and can't recruit than they are Alabama and LSU. Not even close in terms of reasonable expectations there.
Also - Mark Richt finished ranked outside the top 15 in 6 of his last 8 seasons, and the only one of those last 8 seasons he had any realistic shot at being a national player was 2012.
So, all in all, I'd say Kelly is pretty similar to Mark Richt of 2005-2012.......but without the inherent advantages of getting NFL level players that Richt had.

I do agree Richt blew a couple of golden opportunities, but he was also snake-bitten.
I think GA runs the regular season table if DJ Shockley doesn't get hurt, and then the year they had Matthew Stafford and were preseason #1, they had to kick like 5 starters off.
