Leach and Gundy were both better options than Schiano. I'd also add Mullen to the list of guys that Fulmer and his ilk refused to entertain hiring when he was available.

Gundy's the best. He's the best coach in Oklahoma State history by far. Seriously, Les Miles and Jimmy Johnson were probably their best 2 coaches before Gundy, and neither even went .600. I find him to be one of the more underrated coaches in America.
Mullen is second. Leach is third.
Mullen has the opportunity to move up to first, depending on how he does at UF.
Schiano is in a distant fourth place. Seriously, he sucks as a head coach, just less than Pruitt does. In fact, Schiano sucks as a defensive coordinator too. Ohio State fans were very frustrated with Meyer for not firing Schiano, and were thrilled with Day when that was the first act of his head coaching tenure.

Yeah I dont get the Schiano love. If hes so good, why doesn't he have a job? fricking dude sucks and would have washed out at UT just like every other shitty coach we hire.

Is Schiano really a coach that got away? Tennessee basically fired him before he coached a game since the fanbase thought he was a terrible coach. (And of course they pretended it was because of the Sandusky scandal.)

Currie went after Mullen but he was clearly waiting for Florida. I’m pretty sure Mullen was already hired by the time Currie went rogue and was subsequently fired

You wouldn't be in the shape you're in now. And if you hired Schiano, that likely means Currie is still around so you don't have the Great Pumpkin Puppetmaster in place, either.
All of the shite you're going through is Instant Karma for what your fanbase did to Greg Schiano.

Bill Belichick hired Schiano to be his DC before Schiano decided that he didn't want to uproot his family. Schiano could easily get a NFL coordinator or Division I HC job if he wanted to.

True but Fulmer was still involved with the program and so were the boosters that have been supporting him. That's the biggest problem at UT. There is no leadership and no cohesion within the department. You have a bunch of people that only care about themselves rather than doing what's right by the program, Fulmer included. Pete Thammel's article yesterday was spot on. But yes, FWIW, Mullen took the Florida job a few days before Fulmer was officially named the new AD. IIRC, Tennessee never even met with Mullen (believe an interview was at some point scheduled but never happened), which, regardless of what his intentions may have been all along, was a joke considering it wasn't solely because Mullen wasn't willing to take the meeting.

Actually, Ryan Day fired Greg Schiano. IDK if they called it a firing, but everybody knew that was the case.
Schiano did accomplish the unusual achievement of getting a job upgrade after a firing. But then Belichick fired Schiano before he coached a single game. (Including a preseason game.)

No, especially since he is now unemployed, he played the "faith and family" card after taking the Pats D-coord job and quit. Vols would have been screwed and looking for another coach anyway.
Currie is the ultimate dumbass in all of this, he was able to secure Leach, but only after the Schiano fiasco. Who in their right mind would target Schiano over Leach?

Mullen had an offer from VOLS for $6m per annum and Currie believed he had him sealed up when he went to the Bahamas to watch Prick and dem boyz.
He returned from the Bahamas to news that Mullen was Florida bound.
