I know everybody wants to get their shots in, but come on, UGA is in a close battle with LSU and UT for 2nd best program historically in the SEC. Since 2003 they have come within a hair of winning or playing for a NC 4 times: 2003, 2012, 2017, 2018. I don't buy win NC or bust. It's a great accomplishment to get close, though of course, a greater one to win it all. They don't have LSU's charisma or the General but they've been consistently good since the 30s-40s. Butts, Dooley, Richt.

This from a Bama fan.

LSU has actually won 2 national titles just in that span you’ve listed at the beginning and was one game from a 3rd obviously. And 1 screen pass away from taking Alabama’s place in the SEC championship in 2012. Yes it’s a close battle but LSU is decidedly a better program over time considering how close their SEC championships and other victories are but LSU has proven capable of winning the big one multiple times while UGA has only pulled through once.

That's a good analysis, though UGA has more SEC championships, higher winning %. I put LSU at number 2 (I've said this on this site more than once before because of their better national success), but can understand an argument for UT or UGA. IMO, UGA does not get credit for their close calls, in fact, they are taunted. Just like LSU in '11. IMO, it was a great accomplishment for LSU to get there. 4 of LSU's defeats vs Bama in the current streak were close. 2 Bama had to make dramatic late game plays to win. Bama's will to win is often overlooked.
