I don't think I ever expected to see the day that LSU succeeded in spite of their defense instead of because of it.
There's a greater difference between Alabama's defense and LSU's (13.8 points) than between LSU's and Oklahoma's (5.5 points). Oklahoma is the only defense worse than LSU's in the top 12.

How is Mizzou #16 in S&P?

San Diego State is the #1 ranked defense. Data is shite until the sample size expands.

Missouri's loss at Wyoming was bad but it was also a total statistical fluke.
Doesn't make it any better but they dominated the game and had a couple back breaking turnovers

Play a team with a pulse and get back to me. Your defense will get exposed before it’s all said and done
At least we learned early on we need to fix some things before conference play

The same could be said about LSU's offense.
Texas was 110th in pass defense last year. I seriously doubt they're suddenly sporting an average defense, much less some all-american laden secondary.
And Georgia Southern, who last year gave up over 300 yards in the air to such powerhouses as La-Monroe, Troy, and Arkansas St. They only managed to break the top 60 in pass defense because South Carolina St and Appy State.
Play a defense with a pulse and get back to me.

I don't know how A&M is still top 20 after yesterday.

Just like we'll see how good Alabama is in future weeks we'll see how good Duke is.
They played Alabama their first game.
We all know that Duke sucks, man.
