surprising not to see the same names as backups for multiple positions

It finally feels like we have some depth. I feel like outside of 3 or 4 guys each is interchangeable. But that could just be because we have no proven talent

This is according to who? I've heard Jonathan Mingo will absolutely start.

I believe this is based off of how they've been slotted at camp the past few weeks.
On the Mingo front, from what I understand the WR's are going to be rotating constantly between Moore, Sanders, Battles, Drummond, Mingo, Knight, Gregory, and the 2 Jacksons. The only lock of the 3 starters is Moore.
Also Mingo didn't get there till this summer, he hasn't had as long to learn the system

Makes since but stuff coming out of camp is Mingo is crazy special.

“Been really good,” Rodriquez said of Mingo’s training camp. “We knew the physical part was there when we recruited him, he’s a big strong fast physical guy, but he has picked things up really well mentally. The football part of it, he’s worked really hard on that – he’s going to play. He’s going to play an awful lot as a true freshman, maybe start, I don’t know, probably. He’s definitely going to be in the mix.”

Oh for sure. I think he is going to be unbelievable. They don't give that #1 jersey to just any receiver anymore

I hope that the changes in scheme will allow for the team to be more successful.
The attacking 3-4 defense will play well for the speed of the defensive players. I look for the defense to create more turnovers and give the offense a few more opportunities.
As for the offense, the inexperience at WR and on the line may have the offense playing to its strength, running the ball. If the offense can be successful running the ball it should allow the passing game to open up as the season progresses.
I would like to say they go bowling, but I'm not holding my breath. I do want to see a competitive, organized team on the field.

This part is the first step and not too much ask.

That is what totally pissed me off! We had and still have better atheletes played wrong all year. Frustrated the hell out of me!

I can be “all in” with our guys the entire season with just moderate success (I know even that pisses some of our board members off) as long as they are organized and inspired.

I'm legit trying to be optimistic but damn it's hard when we have Luke as our coach. He and Paul Jackson are literally the only things I don't like about our program right now.

That might be the most optimistic thing you've posted in two years.

I have to admit that Matt Luke doesn't inspire alot of confidence as the face of our program. I seriously do not know how Paul Jackson still has a job. The only thing I can think is that it is just laziness on Luke's part to upgrade S&C.

As someone who spent time on the team I can tell you that there's nothing about what Paul does that seems bad or lacking, I mean clearly there is when you see what comes out on the field but it's not anything glaring during weights and conditioning. Also I find it strange that the players love him, even after they're long gone they love him, which may be a sign because I don't know that a S&C coach should be loved lol

I mean in 2014 we were laying down some of the hardest hits in college football with some of the toughest players. Not sure what happened. I really believe Tom Allen leaving took thunder out of the defense. After he left "things" seemed to change.

As far as Jackson, two things stick out to me.
1) I have never seen Ole Miss line up and be physically dominate at the LOS since he has been here.
2) Little, Sims, and other linemen who have been in the system for years, embarrasses themselves at pro day on the bench press.....
I think we currently have 3 kids who bench press 400 or more.....that just seems weak for an SEC program.
For the most part, our linemen look like they would struggle to bench press their own body weight.

The feedback of being a much more physical camp from players bodes well though. I remember the o-line guys said they are excited about know when and if they are run blocking and the aggressive nature of the offense.
