I've been a slave to AT&T for over two decades for my media/communications. As of this week, no more. Anyone else cut the cord?

WIRELESS - Verizon (Baldwin county coverage is sooooo much better, especially on the Beach Express which I travel extensively.)

TV - Hulu w/ Live TV + Netflix + Amazon Prime + ESPN+. Everything I need, including local and premium channels. Not paying for dozens of channels I'll never watch. And still cheaper than DirecTV.

INTERNET - Mediacom. The fastest AT&T offered in my neighborhood was 25 mbps! Can you believe that? It's 2019! I couldn't even stream in HD with that. I now have 500 mbps, only $10/mo more.

Sounds stupid, but I honestly feel like celebrating. Time will tell if my new providers will be better, but so far so good. I've lived with 20+ years of mediocre service and services at premium prices. They don't own me anymore. And it feels sooooo good. Bah-bye, AT&T.

There have been other options over those past two decades. I'm almost sure of it.

And I hate AT&T.

I only have 2 options and one of them is entirely only on paper. Satellite is my only real option, so crappy cell phone signal it is. At&t dsl is the fictitious option, been at max capacity for years in my area... not that I'd want them anyways.

I know, but when you've got all those things bundled it just seems so daunting to find new providers for all of it, then get it all changed at the same time. I guess I was just lazy, but it was easier to settle.

The final straw was visiting my son in LA, using Google maps and losing internet service. On a freeway in the middle of Los Angeles!

I hate AT&T too. Their exit survey is the only one I've ever filled out. It was therapeutic blasting away.

That's what I have and have no problem streaming 2 or 3 HD streams at a time.

The actual speed is always far lower of course, depending on location. In my case, it was less than a 1/3, around 6-7 mb. It was hit or miss, mostly miss, coming in and out while watching.

Ah, should have guessed. Mine is usually around 17 or 18 when I check. The times it has dipped below 10, no streaming anything.

I pay $98 after fees with Xfinity for internet. Includes cable, but we dont watch it. Just use it for the access to channel apps on my Shield or Rokus

Hulu shared with someone $7 a month
Netflix shared with a few people $5 a month
paid servers on Emby/plex $65 a year

The emby and plex servers pretty much have any content I could ever want to watch, we just use Hulu and Netflix as backups

Damn. I'm sorry, man. I feel bad for complaining now. You're closer to dial-up speeds than DSL or cable speeds. I guesss we've still got a ways to go in some rural areas of the country, huh?

I'm building a house where there is ATT fiber, so I guess I will be their slave even more next year. I have had Dish for years and it's been fine, not sure if I can to do directtv or get by with cord cutting with that speed.

We did the same. With AT&T for well over 20 years. Got sick of paying almost 500 dollar phone bill. Switched to Sprint, got 4 new phones, unlimited data with no slow down, got 400 dollars for changing over, phone bill cut by more than half. Couldn't be happier with Sprint. frick AT&T.

It really depends on where you are. Every single one of those companies are terrible. Some are just better in certain places.

Glad I saw this. I live in Baldwin County and have made the decision to break away from AT&T.

I do have gigiPower (1GB up and down) which I like and will keep. U-Verse and the worthless landline that they make me bundle with it can go.

I’ll have to figure out the cell phones bc my wife and I just got new Xs’ on the Next plan. It would be like $2k to cut that off.

I like your Hulu w/ live TV play. I was going to go with YouTube. Did you compare those? What was the final $$ when you add up all of the tv services?

Just a figure of speech. And a bad choice of words. My apologies.

Anyone who has mobile/internet/TV bundled through one provider probably knows what I meant though. Like I said above, finding new providers and changing all at once is a huge pain in the arse. Lazy? Sure. But still a pain in the arse.

I compared all of them. Hulu w/ Live TV, YouTube, Sling, Philo, DirecTV Now, even PlayStation Vue.

I tried the free trial for Hulu and YouTube. YouTube's interface is better (Hulu's is not great, but I'm used to it now). This may sound silly, but the decision came down to A&E, which isn't on YT. Live PD is a guilty pleasure of mine. I added HBO, Showtime and the Entertainment package (for Science) to the base and pay about $85/mo. I'm embarrassed to say what I was paying for DirecTV. It was much more.

End result? I've got my Roku all customized. It took a little time to adjust, but I LOVE it now. Couldn't be happier.

I am going to have to figure out how this works. I would prefer to just get my ATT fiber and a couple of streaming services that get me all the stuff I watch(which isn't that much, some national broadcast items, and sports and a few channels. My needs aren't great.
