And jeez, who woulda guessed at all the SJWs on these boards. I had no idea.

The truth of the matter is that people hate HOAs because they're a breeding ground for retired fascists who want to tell people what they can or cannot do on their property. That's not always the case, but it is the experience that many people have with them.

I get that now. I have never been in or otherwise associated with one outside of seeing my in-laws deal with it, and theirs never seemed to be all that important or influential. I think they only have one to have socials. I don't personally care too much about what anyone else does with their property. My concern is when what they do with theirs affects mine. It was not my intention to dictate to anyone what they can and can't do beyond the whole rental thing, which I don't really think is all that unreasonable, but maybe it is.

Clearly folks see it as a bad deal, in general, and I get why. It was just a question on my part and the answers (or ad hominem attacks in lieu of them) tell me I should just leave well enough alone.

For those who offered legit considerations, thank you.
