Look, I get all this. We have an HC who has proven in the past to not be the best judge of QB talent - especially from the aspect of being game-ready and capable of handling the pressure of being #1.
And we can blame Gustav all we want for not picking the "right" guy to lead the team. But the fact is, when he's been right, the results have been phenomenal. We're talking best-in-SEC-history level production.
And now we have a new QB coach who, we are led to believe, is being given full rein on evaluating the players we have on the roster. Whether or not this is actually true is a matter of debate (which I'm sure we'll do ad infinitum on this forum, just like every other semi-controversial topic).
But, for better or worse, we're ultimately just observers in this process. Both Gatewood and Nix appear to have plenty of talent to shine in the offensive scheme we saw against Purdue. We've got more than enough talent in the skill positions to succeed, maybe even at a 2013 level - IF the OL is up to the task.
And that's a YUGE "if". In the end, it may not matter which QB is 'better' unless we get quality play from the guys in front of them. And that's what will determine the story of AU 2019. I'll reserve judgement on the QB battle until after we see what shape our starting OL is in come late August.
