It’s amazing that you are able to get all of that from his first almost 2 years on the job. Without his best player, who would go on to being a first round pick both seasons.

I still have no idea what his real potential is as a coach. At Cal he had their best tournament seed ever. Unfortunately 2 of his starters missed the tournament game, but that was a sweet 16 caliber tea

He is no spring chicken. There is plenty to analyze.

If you want to just focus on his time at Mizzou, there is almost 2 full seasons of game data. You just have to look at who he had on the floor and how they played to judge him.

Lets look at last year for example. The first half of the season the team was allowed to push some pace and play a bit loose offensively. Cuonzo purposely slowed them down (even before injuries) in conference play. This works when you have playmakers that can create in crunch time. We didn't have any.

Fast forward to this year, same problems.

His defensive coaching is OK. His teams position well both on and off ball. Nobody is great at shutdown defense but overall positioning is solid. His guys rebound OK with plenty of room to get more aggressive on the boards.

His teams don't really execute in the final 4 minutes of games. Blown lead after blown lead and the mounting number of blowout losses just isn't the sign of a great coach. He is not a terrible coach but is average what we want?

Is this all roster issues? If Martin gets credit for the roster in year 1 he should get credit for it in year 2.

he definitely slowed them down in year 1 after a 3 game SEC losing streak. Which the team responded to. They were still playing either 3 on 5 or 4 on 5 offensively.

The only way to build on that season was to have another recruiting class full of 5 star recruits.

I like what I’ve seen from a team building perspective, even if it means that the team is bad this season. There are 6 players that will be the core of the next 2 seasons already on the roster, though the 2 best of that 6 aren’t playing right now. That will make it easier to recruit to specific needs going forward
