Najee coming back would be huge. I think a Najee and Sanders duo plus K Robinson as a change of pace and B Robinson as a short yardage back would give us the best backfield in CFB.
Regarding TE recruitment, we’ve just had really bad luck the last couple of cycles. We put all our eggs in the Arik Gilbert basket and when that didn’t work out, we were behind the sticks with the other guys at that point. Hopefully we can snag a stud in the next class. And hopefully the guys we have on campus now can develop and improve enough to be solid players in 2020. I think 87 and 16 can both be good players for us in 2020.

Kirby is a sleazy car salesman type, no doubt. I know Saban prides himself on no negative recruiting but I think it’s time we pointed out to recruits how miserably Kirby has developed certain positions compared to us. Call a spade a spade. Bottom line is he recruits well, doesn’t win nattys and puts his guys in the top rounds at a way worse rate than Bama does.

Looks like we are communicating with Carl Tucker, a grad transfer TE from UNC.

What's the story with him? Any good?

He's been on the Mackey watchlist twice, so he's got some talent.
Apparently he got banged up against Clemson this year and could never shake it.

Undersized linebacker Clark Griffin recorded more than 300 tackles at Mountain Brook and leaves as one of the most productive players in school history.
The 5-foot-9, 190-pounder linebacker will now get a shot at playing alongside some of the best players in college football.
Griffin has accepted a preferred walk-on offer from Alabama, which means he’s guaranteed a roster spot but will not receive any scholarship money. He announced his decision late last week on Twitter.

He doesn’t want to meet Najee in the hole
Edit: For health reasons, he doesn’t need to meet Najee in the hole

He's no Michael DeJohn, a former message board walk-on favorite. And he's certainly no Thomas Darrah.

Tucker had one decent season but I honestly doubt he's better than what we have on campus. I'm also confused as to how he's got another season. He just finished his fifth year at UNC.

It's assumed he was granted a 6th year due to a previous season's injury.

Griffin will be a legendary high safety. Real gym rat and will never worry about him leaving his lunch pail at home. Oh, and he is the son of a coaches son...

I'd honestly be surprised if we took a grad transfer TE this season.
We have Forristall, Billingsley, Tennyson, Latu, and Parker all coming back. Billingsley, Latu, and Parker all will be sophomores, and Forristall, Billingsley, and Tennyson all have gotten some decent playing time.
It would have been nice to get a top-tier guy, but adding a guy who is a reach doesn't make sense to me. I also think we'll continue to use that sixth or seventh OL as a blocking TE the way Randolph was used this year.

I agree. I doubt Bama will push for Tucker.

Seems pretty small even for Mt. Brook.

247Sports brings fans the final cut from the 2020 All-American Bowl featuring Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern 4-star WR and Alabama commit Javon Baker. Check out video at the top of the nation's No. 137 overall player per the 247Sports Composite Rankings. 247Sports lists him as the No. 195 overall talent in the 2020 class.
The 6-1, 196-pounder chose the Crimson Tide over scholarship offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and many others. Baker has yet to sign with the Tide and seems to be heavily considering the Razorbacks as well, as February’s National Signing Day quickly approaches.
As a senior, Baker had 58 catches for 629 yards and 11 scores. . . (more)
Bama commit sets SEC official visit (BamaOnLine | segment)
quote:
Alabama wide receiver commit Javon Baker did not sign with the Crimson Tide in December as he works to finish some academic requirements, and told BamaOnLine at the All-American Bowl that he was considering taking official visits elsewhere before National Signing Day on Feb. 5.
As we've already reported, the Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern product plans to officially visit the Capstone this upcoming weekend. Now, a new date is set for Arkansas on Jan. 24, Baker tells BOL on Tuesday.
The four-star pass catcher has planned on taking visits on and off throughout his recruitment with Arkansas and LSU being two of the programs brought up the most. Baker continues to maintain he's "95 percent" committed to Alabama, a stance he's kept since the summer.
“Just how their receivers are going to the league and how they’ve changed their offense," Baker said recently of what keeps him solid. "They have the best receivers there.”
