I don't give a damn about golf. I'm talking about basketball. Start a golf thread about the virtues of Ol' Colony.

Facilities are facilities pal, winning takes care of everything. Nothing more.

Auburn was a losing program years after the new stadium was built. We put plenty of butts in Coleman if the team is mediocre. While an upgrade would help we recruit well and like most SEC programs, are a coach away

Well, look at Alabama's football facilities, pal. We've done a lot of winning since we modernized. For every Ol' Colony you can bring up, I can bring up state of the art facilities that help their program.
It's why they call it an "arms race". You don't have to agree and you can stick to your old fashioned line of thinking, it's your opinion, but that's just not how things work anymore

Touché, all I’m trying to say is that pumping more $ into Coleman or building something new, is not the Golden ticket, that does not win. We can talk all day about what we need, but facilities are not the answer.

I respect your opinion, I just don't agree. Facilities don't guarantee anything, but I'm a firm believer that if we spend money on facilities, that the people around the program will start expecting more. When the powers that be put money into something, I'd like to think that they would want results and set higher expectations.

I'm not foolish enough to believe that just because we have great facilities that we will win. It's more of a measuring stick for how serious the University is about winning.

Yes and then added Jimbo. Like Cobra said, the upgrade or new facilities is a sign of dedication. Players want to go to schools that expect to win. Bama is a hope to win school in basketball.

Cobra, if you'll post more good luck photos, every thing will work out great.

This. Better facilities will bring in a better coach who will bring in better talent. Then you start winning and it builds momentum which takes on a life of it's own. Pretty much what happened with Saban

Coleman is in the lower 25% of facilities in the SEC. It should have been replaced when I used to go watch Whimps teams play years ago. Build a new sports complex and you will see improvement to sports at UofA. It’s not just men’s BB who use Coleman.

Wimp didnt have a problem with Coleman. It was considered one of the toughest bball facilities to get a road win. That place was loud and rocking, because we were winning, and we had the Wimp show on the sideline. Wimp made it very clear that if his boys didnt want to play defense, "their fannies would be sitting beside him on the bench".

I am not arguing about what a good coach Whimp was. I’m saying Coleman needed to be replaced. Today if you want to be in position to have a successful program you have to have a good coach and good facilities to recruit to.

It is an outdated dump and we have pumped how many millions into ‘upgrades’ over the years that could have been put towards a new state of the art arena?

Gymnastics is suffering from Coleman too. Yeah, we can talk about the coaching situation all we want, but if you look around the SEC at the gymnastics facilities, gyms, locker rooms, lounges etc, Coleman is a dump. Girls coming in see our dull setting and then look at the shiny new toys at Auburn, LSU, Florida and Georgia and we're already at a disadvantage.

This upgrade better be the most extreme renovation ever made to the building or it's a lost cause.

The defense of Coleman has always puzzled me. By most accounts, it isn’t even in the top half of basketball facilities in the SEC. It provides terrible optics on TV. You’d have to be really into the Kool-Aid to think there’s nothing wrong with Coleman and that it should stay as-is.

I get the argument it’s a good atmosphere when we’re winning but that still doesn’t mean Coleman can’t be better.
