... on cable. Meaning it was the second highest rated out of six total.
I do think being on cable might have a very small factor on the total audience size. But that Ohio State-Oregon rating in 2018 kind of destroys that argument considering it was so highly rated.... plus it involved probably the least "traditional" program to play in the game in about 15 years. Oregon doesn't have a huge national following, yet that game produced an absolutely massive rating.

I'm not shocked that the Miami-Nebraska 2001 game is just about the lowest. Everyone knew Nebraska was going to get absolutely thrashed.

It's simply a matter of population. Ohio State games get high ratings because they have one of the largest alumni bases in the nation.
The 2014 one is because it was the first semifinal game and had a ton of hype.
If it were because of Ohio State, then the 2007 CG would have been higher on the list.

What night were the games on? Some of us have to be at work at 3:00am during the week.

Ok,you do realize not every home has cable, correct?

It's interesting that the Top 4 highest rated National Title Games all involved teams NOT from the SEC.
Also interesting that 8 of the top 9 are all from the BCS era when the title games were played on Sunday and not Monday

Yes. It also hurts that Nebraska probably has the smallest "largest in-state television market" of any of the state's that have produced a National Championship participant.
Omaha is just the #74 largest market. So even if it had a massive rating, it would hardly move the needle nationally.
That's why the Alabama-Georgia game in 2017 actually pulled a decent rating considered it was two SEC teams. When a Top 10 market like Atlanta has a participant, it goes a long way to producing a bigger rating.

Haha. Top Four. You little sissy.
People make Top 3 lists and Top 5 lists.
We all know why you stopped at four.
Oh, hey....where is UGA’s first appearance on that list? Oh yeah, AFTER Florida’s SECOND spot in the Top Ten.

Whaf? It's a huge factor considering all the cord cutting done since 2014.Id bet many more households had cable in '14 compared to '19.
Your original numbers were off BTW.

Then why is this near the bottom?

Good point, but Nebraska was a national power at the time. I just remember that game having absolutely no appeal to me and pretty much everyone I knew since Nebraska was exposed against Colorado and clearly didn't deserve to be in the game. I remember checking the score right before the half and it was 28-0 or something.

Anything past 2014 is no longer accurate. Streaming is still not counted in the overnight and final ratings.

What is wrong with you???
I didn't make a Top 4 list, I listed out every game since 1998.... 21 total.
I noted the Top 4 didn't include and SEC team because guess what..... THE TOP 4 DIDN'T INCLUDE AN SEC TEAM. Imagine that. The audacity to state a fact.

And there are a lot of cord-cutters who did still watch the games and are still factored in the ratings. I cut the cord a year ago and watched the game on Hulu. Just because cord-cutting is a thing doesn't necessarily mean that cord-cutters don't still watch the game, and those watching through Hulu, YouTube TV, or Sling are still counted in the estimated ratings.

Not true. Nielsen does now count streaming through Hulu Live and YouTube TV.
