So last year there was some 130+ underclassmen that entered the NFL draft and only like 17 got drafted first round(numbers might be skewed a little). Do none of these guys get decent advice from their coaches to come back and get better. I know they don't all listen to their coach, but the numbers say to stay. Saban always tells his players to go if they are getting first round grades. If they aren't he tells them to come back and he'll make them a first rounder. For example:Darius Slayton and Trayveon Willams from Auburn and Texas AM, respectively. This is not a post bashing the players as much as it is them getting bad advice from others.

I understand 1st to 3rd round, but then again: People are giving these kids grades from many different places. I personally think if you're not 1st or 2nd round, you shouldn't leave early, but I understand that even being on an NFL scout team is better money than most jobs -- and you get paid to do something you love

I can see why you believe that since your players haven't listened to any of your coaches in the last 12 years or so...

If your not in the first round, most players make their big bucks in the their next contract. Honestly it probably makes sense for most to enter the league as soon as they can to make it to that 2nd contract early. Every player is dependent on their bodies health. For a violent game like football, the sooner they make the league the better.

The title of the thread made me think you were posting about the undergraduate male student body at A&M

A lot of these kids that leave early and aren't projected in the top three rounds will most likely be driving soda and beer trucks before long. The NFL doesn't care about them one iota...they end up broke and unless they are starting at their position...1 or 2 yrs later another early departure from college tales their job and they are cut.

They get a little jingle in their pockets and think they will continue to make money and spend it as fast as they make it. Usually have children to feed and it ain't pretty when they realize football is over.

You have to look at the off the field situation of these players as well. Derrick Brown for instance just became a father. I'm sure that weighs on their decision regardless of the round they're projected to be drafted in.

College isn't for everyone. For many, getting drafted in the 5th round is better than staying in school for one more year. And you can always go back to school. Your body only has a short time that it can play football.

We aren’t talking 18 year olds. We are talking 20-21 year olds

This, the rookie pool of dollars is a paradigm shift in the way the draft used to work. Better to get in the league as soon as possible. From a physical beating, better to spend a year or two playing special teams than your final year in school being a "bellcow" player.

Case in point, Kerryon Johnson probably took two years off his career his last year at Auburn. Damien Harris will enter the draft with the wear and tear of a sophomore, and he knows it, its actually a good recruiting point by Saban...and Im a friggin Auburn fan.

In Trayveon's case, I don't think there is anything he can really do to improve his draft stock. He is what he is and might as well make the move now.

Plus he already has so many miles on those legs. Williams had something like 280 carries this year, 200 or so in both his first two seasons and over 500 in last two years of high school.

His coaches sure have run his dick into the dirt

Harris came back to get his degree. From a rough part of town. Promised his mom he would make something out of his life and take care of her.
Really good guy.
