regular bowl games have taken a hit since the playoff era began. teams with a point to make generally play better. teams disappointed in conference championships generally play worse....unless you’re notre dame, who plays worse with consistency.

The CFP changed everything with Bowl games, and it is now even worse with players sitting out. That number will continue to grow, as players just decide its not worth the possibility of injury

Only exception will be playoff games

The early signing period for HS recruits takes some importance from the bowl games as well, though I still think they matter for recruiting, especially for a team like LSU that is trying to get back to prominence.
