4th and 11 at the 50 yard line.
Opponents starting QB is injured.
Time running out in the game.
Good chance to pin opponent inside the 10.

You don’t coach with an algorithm and I’d offer that he knew GA wasn’t stopping us.
You can’t make decisions based on “if we pin them”. Lots of shite can go wrong with a punt too so risk free options are an illusion.
Kirby wanted the ball back and clearly he knew if he punted he probably wouldn’t get it and Bama would have last chNce to score.

Perhaps the call that was remarkable is that Bama knew the fake was coming since it was such a ridiculous play to call by most common thought.
