I have no earthly idea.

I didn't go to Fayetteville, I did go to college tho and I probably spent more time at the hog basketball games when I was in college than about 2/3 of the actual students at Fayetteville.

So, ain't never gonna give a flyin poo about the sidewalkers comments personally.

This is one of the dumbest things that ever comes up in the college football discussion.

If you live in AL, MS, SC, etc, you don’t have pro teams to root for. Why is having pride and rooting for one of your state’s institutions a bad thing? Muh sidewalk fans...

My alma mater doesn’t even have football as a sport. I guess I can only root for the baseball team of my small school since I spent time in a classroom or two there...

This actually shows percentages for each of the power 5 schools. Interestingly, UGA has a lower percent (7%) than Bama (8%). Aggies win with the highest percentage of 57%. AU is doing pretty well at 20%.

Its dumb because every single SEC school, yes even Vandy, the VAST majority of the fanbase never set foot in a classroom. Like not even 10%. People have no clue how small the alumni numbers are.

Yea I have no idea. Just making a wild guess. My freshman year of high school we had 550 kids in my class and 350 graduated. 5 of us went to LSU and pretty much everyone roots for the Tigers. So 0.9% of the kids in my freshman class went to LSU. Public high schools in Lafourche Parish probably produce a low percentage of LSU students as compared to other parishes though.

Probably much higher than most SEC fan bases.

You may have noticed, but Texas A&M has some very esoteric ways , grounded in traditions that are strongly rooted in campus lore and student experience(s).
This reality can have an exclusionary effect on non-students who didn’t share those unifying experiences and therefore “don’t get it.”

Also, we don’t have the extent of prior national championships that typically lure t-shirt/sidewalk fans.

Unlike many states that have only a handful of major universities, Texas has many. So non-student fans are distributed over a far greater number of schools.

Ags are so loyal to our school, it’s hard for us to imagine someone who attended one university choosing to pull for an entirely different one.
I have no problem with non-students supporting a team.
But when those same people start insulting other schools, they lose me.

Not a chance in hell either AU or TAMU numbers are right and the methodology stinks. Way too many variables.

AU only has 200,000 living alumni. TAMU has 500,000.

18% of Alabamians say they are Auburn fans. The population of Alabama is five million. Thats 900,000 fans in Alabama ALONE. Not counting Georgia

Appoximately 20% of the state of Texas identifies as TAMU fans The population of Texas is 28 million. Thats 5.6 million TAMU fans in Texas alone. Do the math

Miss State surprisingly low on non-alum fans. Do the non-educated folks in MS all pull for Ole Miss?

Actually, if I had to wager, TAMU has probably the lowest alum to sidewalk ratio in the SEC.

Damn, I thought it would be higher for all schools. I’m a proud alumni of UGA and have a daughter attending next year.

We talking the Rant or in general? Almost every Auburn fan I personally know spent at least some time at Auburn, but that's because I met them all there and didn't know any before.
