Now obviously, this is just trumped up nonsense by his agent but I do wonder if things like this actually help expedite extension talks?

I know Odom loves Mizzou and he certainly wouldn’t leave for Louisville but I imagine empty seats and calls for your head get tiresome for a coach.

Coming off an 8-4 year, Missouri coach Barry Odom’s name has been popping up with multiple searches today. One big reason why: Only $2 million of his Missouri contract is guaranteed. Jimmy Sexton angling for more security, sure, but there could be a real market for him.

If Louisville is going to give him more guaranteed money, there’s always a chance he would leave.

Not for Louisville

They were paying Petrino 3.8M and had to pay 14M to make him go away. Highly doubt they are going to be throwing any “can’t say no” figures at anyone.

Missouri fans just want a well known head coach that will recruit top 20 class that will get the team to be not a top 25 team like Arky head coach! No way! Missouri fans got to step up and go to the game and support the head coach or else he will bolt! He is getting tired of being put down by fans! I have tried to protect him from some Missouri fans from attacking Odom without a good reason. I am right Missouri is gonna need to step up and support Odom from now on or else Missouri will not get the respect from the coaches, recruits and other Missouri fans that support Odom. This is why money does help build a stronger and better football program. Also it will help bring in better recruits and great brand to Missouri from now on. It is time for Missouri to go to the games and support the head coach 100 percent!

Lol. One of his supposed features is that he’s not going anywhere.

If that’s not really a feature, he’ll burn capital with the fans.

If they offer BO similar money, and Mizzou doesn’t. Then he’s gone. Brohm is the guy they really want, but if that fails Louisville will pay for a good coach.

Mizzou needs to extend BO raise his salary to 3-3.5 million. Give at least an extra 500k for his assistants. And raise his buyout.

BO’s buyout is ranked around 70th if all FBS head coaches.

The point is they aren’t going to offer anything we can’t.

I’d expect his new contract will have a base of at least 3.5M

Louisville isn’t hiring Odom. Their fans would mutiny.

I’m ok with raising his buyout to top 40 range. $3M on his salary? Pass. Give him a $500k bonus for 6 wins for the next three years and keep it the same. Keep the attendance incentive.

He doesn’t have much. That’s the point.

Sexton is a great agent. This is what he does. But I do agree that Mizzou will step up and pay BO and his staff like a middle of the pack P5 coaching staff.

3M wouldn’t even be nationally top 40 and 13th in the SEC and you don’t want to pay him that? Geez

Lovie makes 3M

I’d expect his extension will be 3.5M base plus incentives and a larger asst pool.

That’s reasonable

Yea if Mizzou wants to be relevant in football, then the AD has to invest in the staff now. It doesn’t matter if that’s Odom or someone else.

I don’t want to pay $3M for 5 or fewer wins. You do?

Here’s an exercise. Name three coaches making over $3.3M that’s he’s definitely better than.

I’ll give you the first two:
1) Chad Morris
2) Lovie Smith

Good job Jimmy. He slid Jody Demling 2Gs to mention Barry in an article so the STL media types can spooge about it on Twitter.

Whatever.

I think Odom deserves it and not at the point of a bayonet. His teams are tough and don't quit.

He needs to clean up his in-game coaching and keep his recruiting on an upward trajectory.

I'm not sure how they improve attendance other than make it as attractive and affordable as possible for students and locals to supplement the alumni base.

I don’t want to lose a coach because we refuse to pay market value. Do you?

Again, 3M doesn’t even crack the top 40 nationally and it would be 13th in the SEC. Did we finish 13th in the SEC?

If you don’t want to pay Odom then you’re better off just firing him and finding someone you do want to pay. To hire anyone decent you’re going to be above 3M so why not pay that to the guy you currently have. There are no guarantees besides this...if you won’t pay market value you’ll have a very hard time attracting quality coaches and if you by chance luck into a good one you’ll never keep him.

I agree that Odom deserves a raise but that article is a pureed abortion. "Multiple Sources". Lol. Maybe if the sources are Jimmy, his secretary, and his father in law.

Salary is about numbers.

We finished 5th out of 7 in the East.
We will finish the year unranked (likely).
Our attendance revenue is probably ranked around 12th in the SEC.
Our recruiting rankings are 40ish in the country and 12th or so in the SEC.

We are likely to take a small step backwards next year.

I could add more numbers, including his all-time record and his all-time conference record and his head coaching experience versus all other P5 head coaches’ experience.

Based on those numbers, he’s not incredibly undercompensated IMO.

I’m fine with giving him a 10-15% increase in his base, upping his buyout and giving him a huge chunk for bowl eligibility. If he’s not planning on winning 6 games going forward, I’m not sure what you do with that.

I’m also fine with increasing the assistant pool.

This is fallacious logic from a compensation standpoint. And it really shows up when you’re hiring a less experienced person for the job.
