Thoughts on Moorhead, coaching and the season

Well done Coach Moorhead, you have completely wasted any potential for a good/great season. You have somehow burned up all your good will in one season, and that's pretty impressive considering how patient State fans in general are.
As mentioned in other threads, I was hoping we had turned a corner offensively based on how we looked vs aTm and La Tech. I'm now convinced that his overly complicated offense won't work at all against decent defenses, or defensive speed.
He has had a whole season to make adjustments and we look just as bad offensively now as we did earlier.
That being said, hats off to the defense and defensive coaching. That side of the ball has been organized, resilient and hasn't quit. Was really impressed with what they have shown when put into awful situations by our inept offense.
Here is some FREE self-scouting for our offensive coaches.
1) Your QB should not have more rushing attempts than your RBs combined.
2) When you need less than a foot for a first down, line up under center instead of 6yds back.
3) Get plays in quickly and don't have your Olineman staying in their stances for 25 seconds each play. Sometimes just line up and run the play as called because the defense can adjust a bit more quickly to an audible than the offense when it's that slow.
I'm off the Moorhead bandwagon. Maybe sometime next year if we start looking decent on offense he can change my mind but as of now he's an offensive idiot, not a guru. You're coaching in the SEC, so you need an offense that works in the SEC, not some conference with limited defensive speed/skill.
Good luck to the D though, really proud of them and the defensive coaches.

This defense is better than 1999. Period. It is just that the 1999 offense is somehow better than this one.
You are 100% correct. It is absolutely pathetic that he lost to Kentucky, Florida, and LSU and hell our defense gave us a chance in Tuscaloosa, I just do not know if the SEC would have let us win.
I do not think he made any adjustments this season.
At BEST, we can win 8 regular season games. Who is absolutely ecstatic about that? Not me. We won't make a bowl next year so I will enjoy our last one for a while in Memphis this year.

When we lost to UK I was over Moorhead and then when we shot the bed against Florida I wanted to fire him. Cohen is a terrible AD

I accepted the UK loss at the time. Because look teams drop a random September game like Ohio State did to Virginia Tech in 2014, I could accept it.
But after the loss to Florida you just knew what this was going to be.
Though I will credit him and say I am surprised that he defeated A&M and Auburn. Not that it should not have been expected, just that he actually did it.

A&M and Auburn aren’t the teams everyone thought they were this year. I just wish people would quit making excuses and just accept the fact that this is most likely a bust hire

I think he just needs some different assistants to hire in the off-season. Saban had to do that after his first season at Alabama.

A bust hire is hiring a coach that stayed coaching his pro team through the playoffs in the stretch of recruiting season. A bust hire cannot take D-1 level talent and beat a team that just upgraded to D-2 level. A bust hire can only recruit a 5-6, 165lbs QB in the SEC and only averaged 40-50 overall in recruiting rankings.
I think Moorhead is going to produce the same results that we've seen for the last 9 years. We're in for 6-8 win seasons.

He isn’t going to produce results IMO. Wait until next year when he doesn’t have a defense that can constantly bail him out. He is a shite in game coach and a terrible game planner. This isn’t fricking Fordam. Produce or get out.

Saban went 7-6 in his first year at Bama.
Some of y’all need to back away from the ledge.
I’m willing to wait and see how he does if we land Schrader who knows the RPO offense already

Assuming we land Bryant and Schrader comes on board, what does that mean for KT and Mayden?

To me Bryant means they still have hope since it appears he is basically the same, just with more experience. If it’s the kid from North Texas, then we are definitely headed a different direction and I don’t think they have a shot.

I fully expect one of these two to transfer before the 2019 season starts.

I don't expect to get Bryant. But if we do get another grad transfer qb like I expect, then I think KT is gone.

He could have adjusted his offense for the players he has now. I wonder what the tone will be around here when we lose the egg bowl

I mean it’s possible, but our losses are to ranked teams. OM sucks and our defense will shut them down. Their defense is awful and I feel confident we have no problem scoring against them

We scored 7 vs UK, 6 vs UF, 3 vs LSU and 0 vs Bama. You’ve been watching state football long enough to not be that confident. I have no faith in Moorhead given the results of this year. Getting that transfer QB isnt going to solve the problems we are facing for the next few years.

Lol Ole Miss and Arkansas defenses suck. Relax. The worst in the SEC that we've seen. We'll score as much or more as we did against Louisiana Tech
Posted on 11/16/18 at 3:36 pm to AustinDawg
You do realize that State can win 8 or 9 games. Thats where State has been the past years. State hasn't regressed but just haven't took the next step. It just disappointing because of our expectations and knowning with Mullen, State would be 9-1 right now.

All of those teams have good defenses too. Our offense faired well against Auburn and A&M who have better defenses than OM or Arky

Guys if (and I realize it is an IF) we win out, we will have won 9 games 4 of the last 5 years. Not bad at all.
But the problem this year was 99% of the fans completely underestimated the ability of a new staff to mesh with a team even though we were talented and experienced. It is much harder than anybody realizes. We all thought because we beat Louisville with no coaching staff, that the transition would be easy.
Reality says otherwise.
1981, 1999 and 2018 we have had a great defenses with no offense to help them. It makes it tough to swallow.
