The truth is we haven't gotten Fields enough meaningful playing time and we haven't allowed him to throw the ball enough. He's going to make some mistakes, but he's the QB who can get you where you want to go. Fromm can't get you there unless you have all world backs and a truly great defense. At this point, we don't have either yet.

He’s gotten a lot of play time but I agree that Fields hasn’t gotten enough time to really get going with all aspects of his game. Bit short of an injury no backup gets that kind of playtime.

How do you do that? Give him every other series? Let him start a game?

We really have no idea of where Fields is, how much of the playbook he’s learned, can he read a defense, is he hot tubbing with Nauta and coeds instead of practicing, etc. None of us know this.

My concern is he’s not coming along as anticipated and we could go from bad to worse. There is no logical reason to believe that he as a freshman would do a better job of picking up defensive schemes than Fromm..so where does that leave us?

I do believe we would’ve had a better outcome at LSU with Fields because if he couldn’t read the defense he can take off....but that will only get us so far.

BTW here’s a DN article on how many snaps Fields has gotten thus far - which is something I’ve been wondering but haven’t seen.
