Starting this off with my roster prediction, but we can use it as general playoff discussion and gamethread as well.

My prediction right now assuming Dansby is ok...

Zuk
Flowers
Rivera

Freeman
Duda

Albies

Camargo

Swanson
Culberson

Acuna
Lane

Inciarte

Markakis

Folty
Gas man
Anibal
Julio

Touki
Newk
Venters
Viz
Minter
Sobotka
Biddle
Brach

Personally, I'd have Carle on there before Brach because he has been unimpressive to me, but I don't see them leaving him off.

I have Newk on there because I like him when the weather is cool. He struggled during the heat of summer but then all of a sudden had a spectacular game in San Diego. That could have been a fluke, but who knows?

The Braves have the potential to run through the Dodgers, Cubs, and Red Sox or Yankees in the postseason. That would be an all time epic run in terms of name and hype

Yea we have the potential, but we haven't played up to that potential against these 4 teams this season

Right now what are the most likely days Braves will be playing at home for the NLDS. Trying to figure out tickets and travel for work. Are we in a position right now to play next Thursday and Friday in Atlanta?

A Yankees Braves WS would be so classic. It would be incredible.

Damn, Swanson returned to Atlanta today to be evaluated by the team physician

A) Love that this is a thread. Just read on ESPN that this is only the 2nd division title for the ATL since our unworldly 14 straight was snapped in 2006.

B) Apparently we can still catch the Cubs and secure homefield throughout. Looks like we'd need some luck though as they're 2 ahead with 4 games left, I think.

I think they have 5 left like we do.

Cubs magic number to clinch #1 seed in the NL is 4. Braves magic number to clinch second place overall is 4 as well.

Just talking about the way the teams line up, not necessarily saying that we have the ability to get through those teams.

I've really come to appreciate his defense this year. Luckily we have a capable backup but we will have to consider who will take his place on the roster, and I'm not sure I feel good about any of our options

Dansby Swanson underwent an MRI in Atlanta today which revealed a partially torn ligament in his left hand. Swanson will undergo daily treatment in Atlanta for the remainder of the regular season. He will be re-evaluated next week.

Our bullpen is such shite. Late it games we have no one we can trust, although viz and Sobotka look good lately. I hope minter is kept far away

Vizcaino coming back and pitching effectively will be a huge boost for the playoffs. He's pitched in 5 games and was awful in that game against STL where it had already gotten away from us. Other than that, he's pitched 4 nearly perfect innings, giving up only a walk in those outings, throwing minimal # of pitches, and throwing strikes.

Not only does it solidify the 9th (hopefully), but it moves Minter back into a LOOGY type of role. I won't post the stats, but he is a typical lefty that fares much better against LH batters than RH batters. That cutter of his always makes me nervous against righties because he tends to miss over the middle of the plate.

This now gives us two potentially dominant LHP for situational roles (Venters being the other). Biddle is better against RH than LH hitters, but overall he's been very good and has proven capable of pitching in high leverage spots against RH or LH batters. So instead of Snit going to him in a LH only situation because of "matchups", he can be freed up to pitch us out of jam scenarios.

It'll be interesting to see if the Braves go with 2 starters in the pen or just one. You basically have 3 guys fighting for 2 spots on the roster if they only go with one starter in the pen (touki, julio, and newk).

if they go with 2 starters, and with the 3 lefties plus viz already locked in, you only have 1 or 2 spots left for Brach, Winkler, and Carle.(depending on how the braves play it with their roster which might depend heavily on swanson's status).

Snit seems to love him some Brach because of his experience closing, so I don't see him being left off. I'd probably go with Carle over Winkler based on recent success. Winkler was flawless in August but has struggled in September. Carle has been great since coming back from injury, although he hasn't been striking guys out. It'll be an interesting choice.
