I feel like we are building towards the Auburn Game

Our next big game is against Auburn if Mississippi State is the team I have projected them to me. I am pretty bullish on Auburn this season as far as them being a top contender, but I still think they will have a solid team. LSU Auburn will tell us a lot this weekend. It would not surprise me if Auburn won this one big.
So what have I seen from both teams so far? Auburn does not have a running game or a good OL. This is going to absolutely crush them when they have these road games starting with us. Mississippi State has an inconsistent downfield passing game. We are throwing the ball downfield and our players are not used to this scheme. The WRs are everything I hoped to be however and Fitz has recovered from the injury judging by his running. I did not see a major difference. However I did not see a major difference in his passing either. Can Fitz improve like Mcsorley at PSU did by Game 5 or Game 6? To me that makes or breaks this game for State since Auburn and State both have stacked defenses.
I am not saying this lightly. State should not struggle with their next 3 opponents. This team is built to start 5-0 and then we get our first West Opponent in October which is odd. I suspect College Gameday and CBS will be in town for Auburn since I suspect both teams will be undefeated and probably in the top 10. A somewhat similar situation to 2014, except both teams are actually good teams this time.
I am going to enjoy these next 3 games. Looks like we are in for a hell of a season.

Don't overlook Kentucky or Florida, young grasshopper. We'll have the better team in both games but neither should be counted as an auto-win--especially Kentucky

I hope Auburn beats the snot out of LSU. For one it makes our home game with them bigger and second starts the deflation of LSU before we head down there later in October.
On Kentucky and Florida, I may get surprised but I don’t see either of them being all that good. Kentucky is a little concerning in that it’s a road game and they appear to have some big play capability. I don’t think they match up well against us physically though. Unless our guys buy into the hype too much and make a bunch or turnovers, I see that as what should be a two possession or more win and not in doubt at the end.
Florida has big problems. Unless our guys come out too hyped and trying to do too much, that one will get ugly.

I'm not part of the team. So I'm not overlooking anyone. But yes Kentucky will be tougher than Florida. My point as I stated above is that this team shouldn't have an issue with either team if they are the top 10 team I project them to be.

I have a feeling Auburn destroys LSU this weekend. I really do believe the Miami game was a result of Miami being too highly ranked. They ended the season by losing to Pittsburgh, not being competitive with Clemson, and losing to Wisconsin essentially at home.
As I said before I agree about Kentucky being tougher than Florida. Kentucky may not be any good, but they might end up being the 2nd best team in the East. At this point it looks to be either them, Missouri, or Vanderbilt. Kind of odd to say those are the next 3 teams....
Not sure you guys keep up with the betting lines and rankings. But Vegas says we are the #10 team in the country rn. So before I'm accused of too high. Let me say that my preseason prediction was 11-1 and State has only proven to be that type of team.
And the best part is, there is 0 chance that anyone can say Mullen would be better for this team. It is quite evident that Moorhead is a much improved coach and we have the benefit of having an incredible team! Like I said, get that passing game going, and I'll take my chances with any team!

Regarding Mullen, it is a bit odd he spent all those years and left before he got the opportunity to coach what would’ve been his best team talent-wise. It almost makes you wonder if he wasn’t somehow afraid of underachieving with that talent and exposing himself to an extent, so he left while he had the opportunity. Realistically, this should’ve been his season to produce and get any job he wanted.

Auburn is not great this year and is very thin.
Should have no problem.

I am super glad he did. It is very evident that under Mullen, this team would be a 9-10 win team at BEST. With Moorhead, I can see even the unthinkable.... #manifestdestiny
Do you think he was under any pressure to leave due to the loss of excitement and the way he finished 2018? I guess what I am saying is, since it appears Cohen knew he could get Moorhead, I am not sure he was really hesitating on letting him go. I know this is another topic, but what ultimately was his greatest accomplishment at MSU? My answer is making the ORange Bowl in which he lost. Mullen was not an elite irreplaceable coach even for the people who say "but it was at MSU". I thank him for his time. But I will always remember his 2014 Alabama blunder.

I like the fact that we get them at home. I think the best thing that plays in States favor is that their OL and Running game is very skeptical at best. And I just do not see a Malzahn offense beating MSU without a running game.
But I am no fool and I do know they have a very good program. That is why I am looking at them as the next possible loss. But yes I am with you Jjdoc in the sense that I do not seeing this Auburn team as a double digit winning team. That schedule for them is too much for that to happen.

No way do I think he would've been pressured to leave. I think he might have been told he either needed to get all in or all out, but I don't consider that being pressured to leave. The fact the he was apparently willing to head to that dumpster fire at UT before Stricklin hit the panic button tells me he had made up his mind he had to go at that point, for whatever reason.

That is another reason though why I question why he leaves for that. Because yes he is UTKs coach today if Florida does not call.
I know Stricklin did not renew his contract after 2015 and that there was a lot of anger in his flirts with Miami at that time. The 2016 season had little to no excitement similarly to 2017. It just almost felt like it was time for both sides to move on. Mullen was never getting over the hump at State and he knew he could not.
I honestly do not think Cohen renews his contract after 2017 and that is another big reason he is gone.

Money. Simple as that. Stricklin admitted it in an interview he did. Mullen was headed to Knoxville. Cohen called Stricklin to let him know.
It worked out for Mullen. He has a 12 million buyout(half within 30 days and other half over 6 years) and 6 year 6 million/per year deal. Mullen would be an idiot not to take that. So if Mullen fails after 3 years, he's has 30 million towards him. It would take him more than double time to earn that at State. Mullen was out-the-door as soon as he hired Sexton as his agent.
Mullen did interview for Miami, coming from a close source with the Miami program, they didn't hire him, not because of his arrogance, it was because they wanted a pro-style offense and not a QB dependent RO offense.
Now back to State vs Auburn, State's next game is always the biggest. Not some Auburn game in Oct when it's Sept. Yesterday's game is why I was more concerned about LSU in Baton Rouge than some others. Auburn is going to get lit up playing at Athens and Tuscaloosa this year.
Let me add what I like about Moorhead's offense thus far, taking the shots down field. If we can connect on those against the big boys, this team could have a heckuva year. Obviously Fitz plays better at home but he needs to play big next week and at LSU.

I am with you now Cdawg. I was wrong about LSU. They are legit. That will be a tough game. We are lucky we have a bye before them.

Moorhead was quoted at Penn State after a close win over Minnesota(who wasn't good) in 2016 as saying the offense has finally "clicked". This was after a blowout loss to Michigan and losing to some terrible teams. I think what we need to see in the next 3 crucial SEC games is for the offense to click.
And this to me is what State needs to do to win in November. Mississippi State was simply not a November team under Mullen. Can they be this season? That is the question. And that is what can make 2018 stand out, or become another 2014....
