With this series we’re booked through 2031 with required p5 teams. I have a suspicion things will blow up in 2023-2024 when current tv contracts run out. Many suspect big 12 will die and there will be four 16 team conferences. Who knows how they will decide on playing power 5 team requirement and fcs team.
My hunch is no fcs team in the future. That means we won’t be able to restart future fcs team ku rivalry ever again.

People keep talking about 16 team conferences, but I keep wondering who is going to foot the bill? You'd also have to flush a couple current programs to make it happen.

I don’t think you do have to flush Current programs to make that happen. Why do you think that’s the case?

If the big12 breaks up, I could see Texas going independent. But most of the other teams would be picked up. Am I missing something obvious?

What about Iowa St, Kansas St, Texas Tech, TCU? Not enough room for all these teams

TCU would find a home. I figure with their university ranking in the top 100, they will be fine. So will Baylor(as long as the current mess is cleaned).
Acc needs 2, sec needs 2 and pac 12 needs 4 and big 10 needs 2. No more big 12. Many ways to slice the pie.

I wouldn’t think Iowa St. or West Virginia would be very appealing for the Big 10 or ACC, but what do I know...

But that leaves out Norte Dame and BYU. I'd assume that with 4 conferences those conference champs get auto bids to the playoffs. Not to mention none of those schools are even a remote fit geographically for the ACC.

Who pays for it? Big 10 going to get their TV contract upped by 70M a year to add Iowa St and kansas...doubt it

Just don't see it. Way too many hurdles

I forgot about notre dame and byu. Notre dame has the tip in with the acc. Byu makes sense for the pac 12. Wvu might be the other candidate for the acc.
As far as kstate iowa state and tech, two of them will be disappointed. I’d love ku to be sent to oblivion but i think they end up in big 10.

A few teams would get flushed. No conference wants TCU with their miniscule research budget and tiny alumni base. ISU would bring in zero extra revenue for the B1G. Baylor, nuff said. Several other P5 teams are just big drags on their conferences and are only there because they are grandfathered in.
