Two rivalry games in southwest Missouri tonight.
Webb City vs. Joplin
Webb City is ranked #1 in 4A and Joplin is ranked #9 in 6A.
They expect at least 12,000 fans at the game. The game hasn’t been played in 21 years even though the schools are 10 minutes from each other. This will be the first time the schools will be in the same conference in decades.
My next door neighbors kids go to Joplin High and my kids go to Webb City. This game will be just as important to some people as a state title.
Four of the five public high schools in Jasper County are state ranked.
4A
Webb City #1
Carl Junction #9
Last team to beat Lamar(2014)
5A
Carthage #9
6A
Joplin #9
Jasper High School is the only school not state ranked in Jasper County. It is a small 1A sandwiched between Webb to the southwest, Carthage to south, and Lamar to north.
The 2nd rivalry game is Carl Junction vs. Carthage. Both schools have good programs, but overshadowed by Webb City and Lamar. Both schools beat Webb City in 2016 and Lamar last loss was to Carl Junction in 2014.
This should be a good night of high school football in southwest Missouri.

Class 4 is solid football in Missouri. Webb City, Harrisonville and Kearney are all consistent programs. Helias struggled after a coaching change but they usually put a solid team on the field.

I'm attempting to follow the Columbia schools. My understanding is the new high school, Battle, really hurt Hickman. Lots of players ended up being rezoned. It's a shame, because the Kewpie is a GOAT mascot so I'd like to see them do well.

What happened in the webb/Joplin game?
I’m about an hour south in Rogers.

Webb City 47 to 27
Closer game than the final score result. Webb scored on a interception and another on a blocked fg. 27 points is more than Webb City allowed in any game last year.
Jr. Zach Westmoreland for Joplin is legit. He had 3 tds on 11 touches 2 receiving and 1 on a counter play. Best player on the field. Joplin’s 3 best players on offense are all juniors. They should be good for the next few seasons. There head coach was at Westran before he came to Joplin.
Webb City lost their QB in the first half, but their backfield and defense stepped up and the backup QB played well.
The two rb’s for Webb are going to be hard for any team to stop. Sr. Durand Henderson last years conference player of the year and Sophomore Devrin Weathers who got playing time as a freshmen last year.
Webb City defense was fast and solid as ever.
8,000 in the stands and few thousand more standing. There were food trucks and tailgating in people’s yards by the stadium. Great atmosphere for a high school football game.

My son plays for Hickman (freshman), Battle did change the landscape in Columbia a great deal. The coaching staff at hickman is a large percentage of the group from Battle's coaching staff last year. There are a lot of changes in place this year Coach Alvis is changing the entire attitude of the team. There is one freshman playing Varsity, LJ. He is going to be something special, he displays a really high football IQ and an incredible amount of talent. I know that another freshman lineman was just promoted to varsity but he is recovering from an ankle sprain. The varsity team was beaten pretty badly by Helias Friday but they are a really impressive team this year. I look for this year to be really exciting for Columbia football with all three teams playing well. RBHS will be at battle this week and Hickman will be at JC so there will be some really good games Friday night.

I checked out the Columbia schools schedules. Battle and Rock Bridge schedule looks tough after the first two games. Hickman looks like their schedule gets easier outside of the Columbia schools.

Kirkwood vs. Joplin tonight in Quad 2 district Championship
How good is Kirkwood?
Joplin’s Zach Westmoreland hasn’t been stopped by any team this year. He plays WR, runs on counter plays and from the wildcat, DB, Safety, and returns kicks. He dominated in the Webb City game even though they lost.
Checking to see if Kirkwood as athletes to slow him down.
Joplin has lost to Webb City and Carthage. Joplin is a underrated team led by juniors.
The rest of the high school teams in southwest Missouri have a easy road tonight. (Carthage, Webb City, Cassville, Lamar)

Joplin's corners better be ready to run. Massey and Maclin are arguably the best pair of WRs in the state.

Westmoreland can cover I don’t about the rest of the corners.
I live in Webb City and my kids go to Webb, but I do pay attention to the other local schools.
I have seen Westmoreland play and he is definitely a power 5 prospect. Joplin has a good RB(Isaiah Davis) and QB. They put up more points(27) on Webb City since Webb lost to Harrisonville 27-21 in 2016 quarterfinals. Joplin is a good team, but will be better next year.
Last week Davis ran for 174 yards and 3 TD’s on 14 carries. Joplin has a good and fast offense, so it is hard to see how good their defense really is.
You can see highlights of Westmoreland on Maxpreps.
I would like to see the game and watch Massey and Maclin play.
I’m guessing this will be a high scoring game.

6A Joplin beats Kirkwood 49-14
RB Isaiah Davis 6 td’s and 333 rushing on 19 carries
Westmorland 1 td and 1 pick
3A
Cassville(11-1) lost to Mount Vernon(11-1) last years State runner-up
Cassville couldn’t overcome a few injuries and lose 34-14. Cassville won the Big 8 Conference West championship and Mount Vernon was the Big 8 East Champions. Both are good teams, but a healthy Cassville might have been the only team to stop Trinity Catholic from a 3A State Championship
2A
Lamar wins 10th straight District title
3A
Mount Vernon wins 2nd straight District Title
4A
Webb City wins 17th straight District title
5A
Carthage wins 5th straight district title
6A
Joplin wins it’s first 6A district title

Massey made it a one score with 1:30 left in the second qtr. It was all Joplin in the second half. They beat Kirkwood up in the trenches.

I saw the highlights and Kirkwood left huge holes everywhere. I don’t think Joplin gets that against CBC.
