I don’t know if you are talking about final rankings or rankings at the time of the game.
But Mississippi State is bowl eligible after beating No. 24 Texas A&M in College Station In 2017

Even Vandy has a better all time winning percentage than the cowbells. I’m not sure why they have an inflated ego all of a sudden when all they’ve ever been is trash and in modern times have morphed into what we call trailer trash. Now they have no coach and a quarterback that can’t pass for more than 6.2 YPA. Sad really.

Winning on the road against good teams is typically hard. 8 straight doesn't seem that outrageous.
